I’m going through a few practice SIMs and I was wondering how everyone searches through the IRC for percentages and threshold amounts? I never had a problem searching through AL until I hit REG. For example, I couldn’t recall what the tax rate is for net investment taxes (3.8%), so I tried searching for it but it doesn’t seem to exist in the code. I read that people have successfully searched for this info but I can’t seem to find it anywhere, any search tips would be helpful. Thanks guys.

The exam usually does not require that you remember rates. The IRC is the worst AL. The best I could do was remember where it starts and how it is organized and what is in each section. If I had to retest I was going to include the Section number provided in mcq answers in my notes for each topic and learn those as I go. RememberIng that tax form numbers are the IRC section numbers is a good starting point.

Thank you that's good to know! When you say the tax form numbers are the IRC section numbers, can you clarify? Because I tried looking for the 1040 and it's actually under Chapter 61, section 601X so I'm confused by that. I'm assuming that the IRC won't have examples of the tax forms…
