    Hi Everyone!

I will be sitting for BEC in November and its the last exam I need before getting my license (finally!!!!). Does anyone have any tips on how to approach the writting communication portion of the exam? Some of the examples I’ve seen from the different prep courses are long and pretty extensive. I thought this should be more of a business style memo and should be treated as I would with a business email. If anyone can give any tips, it would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks a million!

Yeah definitely have the right idea about it being more business style memo. Warning: I did take this exam right before changes BUT Im fairly certain the memo style hasn't changed. Honestly a good part of the answer is in the question itself, what your job is, is to make it look clean and professional with the intro and closing etc. I think you can also use authoritative literature if you need extra help. If you really don't know the answer do you best and use the question a lot for how to answer it. Keep it short and concise, no fluff.

I just took BEC earlier this month. I kept all of mine to 4 or 5 paragraphs with a closing sentence. You are right, I think a lot of people mistake these for essays when they are in fact business memos. You don't need to write a book to get points. Stay on topic, use proper writing skills, and have a structured format. And proofread! Even if you aren't an expert in that topic, you will be able to get by.
