After a decade, I’m moving “Ask Jeff” to the forum…

    Have a question?
Need help with a Study Plan?
Frustrated about your career and need to vent?
    Need Study Motivation?

Ask me anything. In 10+ years of doing this, I’ve seen it all. 🙂

Alright Jeff, how do I keep myself from second guessing every answer on the MCQs? This is my second go around (my first try was 7 years ago before life got in the way)…. and I had this issue then too. Everytime I do a MCQ, I find the answer, then second guess myself and 75% of the time, I was originally correct. I tell myself not to second guess, but I still do. Any tips??? Please?

Had to take a break from studies in order to homeschool the kids while we were all in quarantine (Thankfully there were only minor symptoms and everyone is recovered) Now comes the familiar feeling of guilt from stopping, and dread/regret of staring back up again. Any tips on recovery and getting back on track now that the holiday season is ramping up.

Step 1 would be to schedule your exam – sometime realistic…late January? Then make a 7-week study plan and execute. There will always be holidays, birthdays, and busy seasons. Go Go Go.

Be sure to use the NINJA Study Planner – we have a 7-week and 4-week planner.

It's important to get this habit fixed now or it will doom you on exam day.

Select the best answer and (while studying) see the correct answer and take notes if necessary (if you missed it) or (on exam day) move on and don't look back. You will shoot yourself in the foot on exam day if you second guess yourself. Pick the best answer and move on. Don't look back.

I need help with a study schedule for BEC. I get up between 4 am, and 5 am and study for about 1 hour. But by the time my day gets going, I can't find the time to fit in anymore study time. I'm exhausted from work by nine at night and can't learn. Help, please! My exam is next month.

This is a tough one, because you can't simply “be less tired” at night 🙂

Maximize your lunch study time if possible.

Stay an hour after work, if possible (you'll likely need to physically leave though or you'll get looks for studying at your desk, even after closing time).

Listen to the NINJA Audio whenever you can – easy study hours when you're on the go – and they count!

The likely solution is to play “catchup” on the weekends.

    Yes, thanks, Jeff.

I was thinking the same thing. I work Saturdays half a day, but I will utilize the other half-day and all day Sunday.

Now is the time to have that uncomfortable conversation with the family that I will be studying for the CPA exam the next year of my life, and they will not see me as much. Learning at home at night is difficult because the family wants your attention. However, in the morning, it is easy because they are sleeping.

    Hey Jeff,

What is your advice on how to acquire two years of experience if you are in a different line of work?

I don't remember where I posted this question before. Still, I am asking if anyone has any creative ideas on getting the two years of experience to qualify to become a CPA if you currently work in a non-accounting industry.

Hi Deborah – I haven't deleted any of your posts. I will clean this thread up from time to time (and remove messages like this that aren't relevant long-term), but I haven't done that yet. I'm getting ready to do a podcast.

    Hey Jeff

Do you know the rules regarding Covid and test reschedule or where I can get more info? I have Covid or a respiratory infection and I’m having a hard time.
