This post may not be what you think it is by the title. It is a post that You can take this CPA initials and do you know what with them!!! I have about had it with this exam! My wife is expecting our first child (a baby girl) in March and all I want to do is spend time with my wife (while we have the time just the two of us), let my child (although she is in the womb) get to know who her daddy is instead of being cooped up in a room studying when I get home, and get everything ready for her arrival. I have passed two parts and failed the two I have left and I am just tired of failing them, not knowing what to study, seeing the same things I have studied before and just not caring! I am a man of faith and have prayed and asked others to keep me in their prayers and again I have failed these parts twice! Oh and I have paid so much for Becker review materials (updates, expired license, etc.), cpa exam fees, NINJA review items, and I am getting to the part of draining my savings!!!! I have seen 3 people in my firm study the same time as me, pass all parts the first time, and they are now CPAs. I want a relationship with my wife and daughter and I have been ruining it for the 2 years we have been married trying to study for these exams. I will confess that I have not put 100% into studying to where all I do is eat sleep breathe CPA material. I have studied when I get home from work for hours, feel like I have not learned anything, got bored doing multiple choice over and over, doing multiple choice and getting them wrong, writing materials where it just feels like I am writing and what is that doing, etc. That is just ridiculous and life is not about this! Life is about faith, family, then career! I am sorry I am ranting but I just had to get my feelings, emotions, and heartache out there.

Thank you all for the comments. It is not just about sucking it up!!! I agree that this is one moment in time but at this moment I find myself not having enough time to give it 100%. On Monday evenings we have our birthing classes, on Wednesday evenings we have bible study which is very important to my life, and on Sundays this is church, volunteering, and family day and busy season is also starting. I have FAR scheduled for February 20 and BEC scheduled for April 1 which is the day my first credit expires. I feel that if I fail these tests and lost my credit this is just pointless and keep having to study the same things over and over. I can't afford to get more materials guys…as I said before I am draining my savings and I have a baby on the way that will take some of my finances as well! I would love to get the Wiley Test Bank but can't pay for that.

StephAV – I feel like to me money will not give my wife and child what they deserve but my time and love to them. I do understand that this is just a moment in time but if I don't pass this moment continues on and on.

TXgurl – I only have 2 months left pretty much until my baby girl is born and I can't take the exam at all in March (that gets really annoying having this closed window). I just feel that if I fail these two sections and lose the credit I do not want to spend time away from my newborn to sit in a room and study for hours, days, weeks, etc. when I could be cuddling with her and enjoying time with her!

Cajun- I understand your frustration as well. But think about it this way— you have 8 hours a day that you need to work (well 9 or 10 or 11, depending on the season/industry/company etc.). Don't you want those 8 hours to give you the most money possible so that you can take care of your family? Once you have your CPA, you will make so much more money in those 8 hours than if you didn't have your license. Know what I am saying? A little bit of sacrifice now will pay off for the rest of your life. And you are halfway there! Don't give up!

    F- 7/13- 84
    R- 10/13- 79
    A- 11/13- 99
    B- 1/14- 86

    Licensed in PA- 3/20/2014

This exam ALMOST defeated me back in 2006-2008, but I came back and WON!

Cajun … in all honesty, to me, it sounds like you are not willing to sacrifice. You can't get this license without sacrifice. I have not spent any time with my wife, 6 year old son or 4 year old daughter on a Monday night, Wednesday night or a full Sunday in 2 years (which is our only available full family day together). No church other than Christmas Eve and an occassional Sunday service when the library is closed. I've done this for two years. I took FAR (my last section) last Friday, so I had nothing to study this past Sunday, and it was phenomenal. If I pass, every Sunday will be like that now. You said, “It's not just about sucking it up”. I have to disagree with you there. It is ALL about sucking it up and sacrifice. And as a father … words of wisdom: Get as much studying/exam taking out of the way before the baby arrives, if you still plan on doing this. It's a lot easier to sacrifice before a child than it is after a child.

    Licensed Florida CPA:
    B: 71, 73, 79
    A: 83
    R: 78 (expired), 77
    F: 74, 74, 80

    It's finally freaking over.

    Cajun –

Missing out on your Wednesday bible study and church on Sunday – DONT FORGET IT IS TEMPORARY. Pare activities down to the bare essentials. (I believe your birthing class definitely falls into that category of essential.) I had to say “no I have to study” many times. A few months of sacrificing what I wanted to do paid off big time. LOOK AT THE LONG VIEW.

Whether you're able to make it happen before your child is born, I'm not sure. But if you want it bad enough, you CAN make it happen. (Cue up Rocky music)

Separate but very important question – how does your wife feel about it?

    REG 75
    FAR 88
    AUDIT 82
    BEC 74, 12/4/2013 84 Thank You Lord Jesus !!!

@OP I realize how important family/faith/friends etc. are however by not giving 100% of your energy and focus to this exam you will continue to struggle. You have to put the work in to pass and even when you do put in 100% you can come up short but you must give it your all if you want a fighting chance!!!! I put everything I had into my last FAR attempt and came up with a 74 on my LAST section. It was awful but you'll never see anything but grit and determination out of me. I have plenty of obligations, relationships, and events that missed and neglected but nothing worth having comes easy or free. If I can do this, so can you!!!!

You need to light a fire under yourself and get back on the focused study train!!!!!!!!!!!!

Think about the example you want to set for the new baby. Do you want to send a message that it's OK to give up on your goals when things get tough? Or that it's OK to half a** work towards a goal? NO, of course you don't! Think of this as test of your strength and don't give up. Put in 110% of yourself into your studying and think positively. Write down all the things you feel that you are missing out on and underneath in bold/caps write “focused prep will set you free” or anything that will motivate you to get back into the books with a purpose. Think of how proud your family will be to see you work hard and realize your goal.

Abandon the negativity and start again fresh today with 110% energy into studying tonight. You can do this!!!!!!!!!!!

    REG: 75 DONE 🙂

I'm expecting my first born in March and feel terrible about the time studying will take away from him. I have already sacrificed too much to stop now. Sacrifice is the only way this will happen. The CPA exam rips everything you hold close away from you, just how it is.
