Those of you that passed REG with Yaeger:

1 Can you tell me your “study plan” using this program for REG?
2 Do you do ONLY the questions that Phil says to do?
3 Did you utilize the Wiley Test Bank?
4 Any other advice you can give me?

    Thank you!

I used Yaeger for REG and failed with a 72 in August 2011. I used it again and passed with an 86 in February 2012. The first time through I only watched the lectures, did the questions once (just the assigned questions) and rewrote half my notes. The second time through I rewatched all the lectures (painful to watch Phil again…sorry but he is so hard to listen to!), made flashcards as I went through each chapter, did the questions twice, incorporated wiley questions online (from Jeff) – about 500 questions, rewrote the NINJA notes and my own notes. The flashcards made a big difference for me. I also learned to watch the lectures at 1.3 times speed and that made them more bearable! 🙂

I used Yaeger for REG in November, and passed with an 88. Here's what I did:

As I was watching a lecture, I had a Word document open (on a separate monitor), and created my own “outline” for each module. (had to pause the video many times to type, each hour of video would take me at least 90 minutes). If there was a formula, or other key concept that I felt would make a good flashcard, I would create it at that point.

When Phil went over a MCQ, I would pause the video and try it myself first.

At the end of each module, I would go to the Wiley Test Bank and do some MCQs over that section until I was comfortable with the material, and then I would add questions from previous modules to keep it fresh.

I reveiwed my typed outline/notes, and then printed and put in a 3-ring binder, with tabs for each module.

When I had completed all videos, I had a nice binder with the “essential” information in it, and a nice stack of flashcards that I took with me everywhere.

Then I purchased the CRAM videos, and watched them in the last 3 weeks before my exam, and instead of following along with the Wiley book, I followed with my binder of notes.

The last week, I pounded out the MCQs until I was scoring 85% – 90% on a random group of 20 questions from each section. If I was weak in an area, I would do more until my scores improved.

For business law (which I struggled with), I listened to the Yaeger audio every chance I got. I think this really helped.

Do as many MCQs as possible – not just the ones Phil assigns. Even Phil, who has said to do only the ones he assigns, admitted to me on the phone that he's re-thinking that strategy.

    BEC 04/04/12 - 88
    FAR 07/23/12 - 90

–1 Can you tell me your “study plan” using this program for REG?

I typically watched 1-2 videos a nights, pausing to take notes on anything I didn't feel 100% comfortable with. Then I did MCQ at the end of each module (not at the end of each video; there may be 4-5 videos for a module). After every couple of modules, I went back and redid the MCQ for all of the previous modules.

Then the week before the exam I used Wiley's test bank to get a feel for how sims tend to be structured (since test bank sims are closer to the real sims than the ones in the book), did all of the assigned MCQs again for every module, and read my notes until my eyes bled.

–2 Do you do ONLY the questions that Phil says to do?

Yes, except for using the test bank the week before the exam (since sims are pretty weak in the book).

–3 Did you utilize the Wiley Test Bank?

    See #2

–4 Any other advice you can give me?

REG can be pretty tough since tax and business law are quite different and can be frustrating at times, so don't be afraid to take a day or two off occasionally to recharge your brain.

Also, don't worry about memorizing dollar amounts (phase out amounts, tax bracket ranges, etc). These can change from year to year, so the exam doesn't really emphasize memorization of dollar amounts. For example, if you are doing a MACRS question, you'll get a table to use with dollar amounts.

    Hang in there!
