Hey fellow CPA candidates,

I need some of your opinions.

I just got a mail from Yaeger that I could only get 2011 updated materials for failed parts in 2010.

I bought the full course back in June 2010.

I requested the updated materials for 2011 and got a reply that I could only get updates for failed parts.

I didn’t, better said, I couldn’t take all 4 parts in 6 months.

I saw the ad and they said I could get updates for 2011 so I purchased all 4 parts and what I just found out

that i CAN’T get the updated materials for 2011 if you didn’t take them. I don’t understand the concept behind this.

Is/Are any of you registered by Yaeger have the similar issue?

If I knew that before I wouldn’t order all 4 parts because it’s not possible to take all 4 parts withing 6 months.

The person I contacted for updates didn't even ask me If I have passed.

I faxed them the score sheet which it must indicate I didn't pass any of the parts.

I can even send them my Scheduled examination.

I told them I'm taking the exam in January and February but the response I got is one simple sentence.

“You can only get the free videos for the failed test in 2010.”

gotJesus, you have a very valid point.

I believe Mr. Phil Yaeger is a very fair and ethical person. You should call and ONLY speak with Mr. Phil Yaeger directly.

I believe Yaeger has the best customer service and would be surprised if he did not send you the updates for 2011.

Try getting a letter from NASBA that you haven't passed any parts or 2 parts…

Why did you buy all four parts the first time if you knew you couldn't take all four in 2010?

Just thinking logically, you bought 2010 materials. You didn't take the parts in 2010, and now you want free upgrades to 2011. Why would Yaeger do that?

Their guarantee (based on the information you gave) is that they'll give you free 2011 materials for parts for which their 2010 materials did not work for you. In other words, if their product wasn't good enough, they'll replace it for free. Well, you didn't even try their product! So why would they replace it for free?

Maybe I'm missing something. I don't mean to be rude.

The part you are missing is they stand by their product and commitment to you…however you didn't give the product a chance, never tested if it works, but you want to get a free upgrade now? Othere review courses have an even more stringent policy where you have to prove you did all the homework/watched all the lectures etc.

Yeah Herbieherb, that's along the same lines that I was thinking. It's like buying one of those Shark steam cleaners or vacuums I always see advertised, having it 60 days but never opening the box, then asking for your money back!

The 2011 update details did say that it was for people who didn't pass…that was the caveat listed on their site.

Like someone mentioned, at least they aren't requiring you to send an activity log in addition to your failed score – other courses require that extra hoop to jump through.

I would require the activity log to make sure I'm not being scammed by lazy people. It's not much of a hoop if the software tracks it.

Well, thanks for all your concerns.

Sometimes your plan can change.

In addition, i'm not in the states so it's really hard for me to take the test.

I'm residing in Korea and the only method to take the test is to go to Guam.

And I'm working so it's really hard for me to take it back to back in each window.

That's the reason I could only take one part in 2010. I was hoping to take at least 2 or 3 and thinking I could get the updates for 2011 I just purchased all 4 parts.

I hope this clarify your questions WHY I bought 4 parts and my laziness, if you think that way.

I'm not asking a new materials because it doesn't fit me.

It's updates for new changes in 2011 with all that International Accounting standards and stuff.

That's what I'm asking.

They still say I get the updates for parts I have taken and failed.

If I return my USB they will give me more discount. That's John's answer.

I e-mailed them back with my situation.

But I still don't get the point for giving me the updates for 2011 because of this IFRS changes.

I'm not asking for a whole new stuff because I didn't like the previous stuff.

If there was no IFRS changes I wouldn't mind getting the updates.

Sorry for bumping such an old thread. But I'm in the position to make a purchase on a CPA review course and was just searching through the forum instead of starting new threads. The situation that the OP is facing, is also one of my question that I have before deciding on which course to go with, which is reason why I'm reviving this thread.

After reading through this, it seems that a few people may be confused with understanding the OP's situation.

It looked like the OP bought “Yaeger Complete Course” in June of 2010. His plan was to take one or two sections in 2010, and take the rest in 2011 since he has 18 months to complete everything.

When he bought the 2010 Yaeger Complete Course in June…… there were no such thing as 2011 videos and materials because they did not exist yet at that time.

So fast forward to 2011, he needs to study for the materials in the CPA exam IN 2011. He is simply asking for updates to sections that he has NOT even taken yet or studied.

For example, lets say the OP took BEC & AUD in 2010, now in 2011 there are many changes to FAR and REG, but he is stuck with only 2010 materials that he bought and paid for. This seems a bit unfair and unreasonable for Yaeger to not honor him with any free updates don't you think?

If this is the case, that means the full price he paid for the complete course is only good for 6 months since he bought it in June of 2010. I think there should be a list of customer names with the date that they purchased the complete course and honor any updates that becomes available for them for 12 months from the time they made the purchase.

If not, this means that people should only be purchasing review courses in January in order to have their monies worth for 12 full months of new material without updates.

Again, sorry for bringing back such an old thread. This was always one of my questions that I wondered about.

I purchased the whole Yaeger course a couple of months ago. I specifically called and asked about this issue b/c I am only taking 1 test in 2011 and the rest in 2012, and didn't want to buy each part separately. They offer something called the Now and Then program which enables you to place the order for all 4 parts now, but not receive the materials until you are ready for them. I requested they send me 2011 FAR materials, and they will send 2012 REG, BEC and AUD when they become available. For some reason this is not advertised on their website, but I feel like it should be. They are not many people who start in January and end in December.
