I need some expert help on how to survive a work place where all people do is gossip and bad mouth everyone. People are so two faced that its so difficult to trust anyone.

I do exactly what Jeff said. I work with all women, I'm the youngest, and I'm the most educated. Most of all the people I work with socialize nonstop, and gossip. I feel like I'm back in high school with all of their nonsense. I sit at my desk and do my work ignoring them a majority of the time. If need be, I keep headphones in, whether it's music or listening to FARaudio right now…. I ignore them… I had a so called friend, but she ended up talking crap about me – I'm not here for that, I'm here to do a job and that's it.

I understand what you are saying. Up until this last hire I was the youngest. I am the most educated and am the manager of the department. I try to be nice and don't trust anyone. If anyone says something negative about me that has no basis then it doesn't matter. I have an employee that has disliked me from day 1. It's not easy to be nice all the time, but you do what you have to do to stay professional and to keep your job. It has paid off for me and I'm sure it will for you too.

So my guess is its like that everywhere (well almost) … headphones sounds like a great idea …. its just that i work for a huge corporation in a good accounting position.. its just the gossip that I just cannot tolerate .. and i am more then confident they surely talk about me behind my back .. its just because i have a graduate degree and am studying for the CPA ….i guess it intimidates them …

I work in a small office where the main admin is not professionally in any sense. I try my best to be nice to all. My boss thanked has me for being professional at all times. People notice. The right people notice. Hang in there, great advice on this page!
