Hello, I’ve recently moved to united states and aspire to become a CPA , I’ve studied accounting in India and Australia with just over 2years of accounting experience in funds. Getting back to studies after 4 years & with an almost 1 year old infant, currently unemployed however looking to start work soon. Pls I need some advise on which unit to start preparing for first as all the 4 parts are equally challenging for me.This question has been posted numerous times on this forum but considering my background & inadequate knowledge about US GAAP; what would your advise be? Pls help…Thank You:)

Hi, I choose to study FAR first as I believe that it takes the most amount of study time. Also, I have heard that many of the concepts you learn for FAR can be applicable in the other exams. Good luck with your studying!

    FAR 7/16/15 (82)
    REG 8/31/15 (85)
    AUD 10/27/15 (81)
    BEC 11/30/15 (84)

A lot of folks start out with FAR so they aren't hung up with it after passing the other three. With your limited knowledge of GAAP, I'd start with that one.

On the other hand, have you thought about taking an accounting course in the US? Maybe at a local community college? It won't teach you everything, but might help lay the basic groundwork.

    Good luck!
