I just received my Becker book for FAR and planning to start studying next week. I’m thinking about taking the exam in January 2018 since December is a non-testing month. But with all these changes that I was just aware last night, the book they sent me will be obsolete by then. Can I still start studying using this book?

I'm in the same boat, I emailed Becker and they confirmed that the new version will be available just before the close of this testing window. So I decided to start studying for Aud and take the exam before FAR though of the risk that some FAR sims would appear On AUD exam 🙁

The changes are minor. You can study FAR now and add the few rev rec items later.

R u sure Ana? Coz the new revenue recognition rules seemed to affect many areas in the material and I'm scared to get confused later on.. which chapters do u recommend studying now ?

Let me find the link with changes. You can always do govt, nfp, consolidation, tax, cash flow, fixed assets, etc. I have the old Becker and in a few (like 3 places) it mentions the new rev rules.

@ana lol, yeah I did, I'm really worried about the new changes since I have no much time in my 18 months for a retake. That's why I keep asking everywhere, i just emailed Becker again about the chapters we can study with no worries. I'll update here once I get a response.

The FAR book will only change in a few modules. You can study the rest and wait for the new modules.
The changes are :
F1 M3&M4 – Rev Rec
F4 M1 – Financial Instruments
F7 M1 – M2 – Pensions
F8 M3-M6 – Not-for-Profit Accounting

do you have the old book? you can see on pg F1-19 where they note the changes will be. If you're really concerned just skip over F1 module 3 & 4 rev rec and you should be fine. There's plenty to study without the new rules.

Thanks Ana and Lamis for the response. Lamis we're really in the same boat. I'm also worried that I will be confused and don't want to waste my time either. My schedule last year juggling work and studying for the exam almost cost me my marriage.

Hey guys! I'm also facing the same situation 🙁

@Lamis, I was wondering who you emailed about the Becker changes? I called and emailed Becker, but both times, the representatives told me that they don't know what the changes are yet and won't know until a later late 🙁 makes me a little worried haha
