Did manuelo ever check on with how he did on the exam that started the napuela craze? I'm rooting for him!

Goodluck is still around, yesterday mentioning how difficult the ethics exam is.

I haven't gotten a bad advice on this forum. In fact, it helped me tremendously.

The only thing I tried to ignore was the weeks suggested for each exam. There was no way I could study REG in 6 weeks and pass. Of course, this is just a general suggestion, not an advice.

I too, would like to hear Manuelo's results.

I like goodluck. He ended up passing the exam and his threads are pretty entertaining on my breaks.

To “pound multiple choice questions nonstop and you'll be fine.” I just don't think doing MC questions over and over again really helped me. I don't really learn THROUGH the MC questions. I learned best by going back and forth between all sources of information that I had available to me: notes, books, audio, flashcards and MCQs. But I get bored VERY easily, and everyone is different!

    REG - 80 (Becker only)
    BEC - 76 (Becker only)
    AUD - 71, 76 (Becker only)
FAR - 65, 74, 81! (Becker, Wiley Test Bank, Ninja notes & Audio)

    CPA Class of 2012 🙂

People learn different ways so I don't think the advice some are stating is “the worst advice they ever got” is pertinent to everyone.

I've passed FAR & BEC and didn't look at ANY simulations for FAR nor did I look at any written communication examples for BEC. I'm studying for REG now and I'm not practicing any simulations except the research questions.

In my opinion, while the simulations may be there to reinforce your knowledge of a particular subject, you can easily substitute practicing them by using the time going back over the material.

To the poster who the said the worst advice they got was “pounding MCQs”, I'm not really sure how that could bad advice if you're using Becker. I think the MCQs throw every exception in the book at you for you to take note of. Simply reading the exceptions may not help if you don't know exactly how they may throw the exception at you.

I didn't practice SIMs once on my way to passing all the parts

Sure I failed REG twice and AUD once but that's the price I have to pay for not buying a review course. Soooo….

worst advice I've ever gotten: “maybe these exams are not for you. Just be the best accountant or auditor you can be” (some douchenozzle on these forums said that to me. No it wasn't minimorty)

^ I went 3/4 on these exams after that

Here is a good bit of advice concerning the SIMs though

“It sounds like you may have gone into the exam a bit unprepared. All of the concepts are outlined in the CSO. There really shouldn't be any surprises on exam day. It sounds like if you thought the SIMS were a “joke” that you may not have fully understood the concepts”

if youre having trouble with the SIMs, its good to take a step back and dive into the details a little deeper than you have been doing

Bawhahahahhaha. Well if nothing else they would be on the meaner side. But at least they would pass the tests without being whiners about it.

There's a lot to be said for people who tell you what you need to hear instead of focusing on what you want to hear. Every single significant accomplishment I've made in my life can be credited in large part to someone who called BS on me when I needed it called. And yes it bothered me at the time, but looking back it was ALWAYS a useful tool!
