    My contribution will be:

Anytime someone tells you to memorize something.

You need to UNDERSTAND the material, not memorize the material.

Hahaha, I seriously never practice SIMS.

    BEC- 73, 73, 80
    REG- 74, 83
FAR- 50(didn't study), 76 (<--How the heck did that happen?)
    AUD- 71, 71, 79!!!!!
    Finished!!

I really don't think that's bad advice, honestly. Most people say you can't prepare for the SIMs because they are so complicated or just nothing like what you will see in review materials. I never practiced AUD SIMs and I didn't practice much with REG. If you see from my signature, I definitely got rocked by the SIMs on REG, but everything that was on them was something I learned from the MCQs, I just got three SIMs on the exact same topic that I just happened to be weak on.

If you know how to work the problem, which you will most likely learn in MCQ or by doing your own review, you will know how to fill in a blank or choose an answer from a list in a SIM. This is why I think Becker works well, because their MCQs are more difficult than you will see on the exam, which in turn prepares you better for the SIMs. Because Becker SIMs are a joke compared to what you really see on the exam.

    BEC: (4/2012) 88
    AUD: (5/2012) 91
    REG: (8/2012) 82
    FAR: (1/2013) 78 🙂

@kristen – Your scores sort of go along with the OP's point. Just sayin'.

No, my scores go along with a single mom taking the exam while working full time, taking care of two children and dealing with death of two parents and estates that go along with it. I schedule the exams with huge ambitions and don't end up having enough time. I don't study the SIMS when I pass.

Not to mention that I don't work in public accounting and I graduated college in 2005.

Wow Kristen, sorry to hear about your parents. Considering all of that, the fact that you are just a FAR pass away from finishing is great! Hopefully you kicked FAR's butt this time. Good luck to you.

    FAR - 81
    REG - 75
    AUD - 85
    BEC - 79

Thank goodness it's over... Now on to the next step...

@kristen – Fair enough. I guess I still don't understand the point of your initial post. Are you still an advocate for not practicing the sims, despite your six failed exams?

I never spent much time at all on the sims. I would usually even skip Yaeger lectures that discussed sims. Didn't get perfect scores, but nailed all four on the first try.

The kids who try to say getting a script for adderall to get through this is a good idea.

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

@minimorty- there was no real point of my original post other than the obvious. It certainly wasn't to solicit your unhelpful comment. However, I will expand now to say that I agree with the precious poster that you learn the information in the text and MCQs. I don't think the SIMS help you on the actual SIMS in the exam. Actually for my-as you so kindly pointed out- six failures, I scored better or comparable in SIMS. So clearly they aren't my problem.

@CPA Hopeful- thank you for your comment. It's been horrible. Makes me wish I would've done this exam earlier. That way I could've passed the exams faster and then criticized others' exam process.

Hey Kristen, just realized you took FAR today. How do you feel? I know I have left both of my exams feeling I failed them and was pleasantly surprised with 2 passes. Hopefully you knocked it out and can come back here and “criticize others' exam process” LOL

    FAR - 81
    REG - 75
    AUD - 85
    BEC - 79

Thank goodness it's over... Now on to the next step...

The worst advice I would say I ever received would have to have come from my former CPA boss (not this forum) who told me once to “study for a 75 because anything higher and you have studied too much”. My advice is to study for a 99 and accept a 75. Even though I never really focused on sims I always thoroughly studied all the material and felt comfortable with it before I took any exam. I rescheduled every exam at least once because I didn't feel comfortable with the material.
