What to take after FAR if I don't pass FAR?

    I know I am putting the cart before the horse with this question, but I do want to be prepared…

    I am taking FAR on Oct 7th. I know I didn’t give myself enough time for the material, and while I am trying my best to absorb the material, I want to have a strategy in place in case I don’t pass it.

    As I said, my test is October 7th…and if I am correct about the testing window, I have about a month until I get my score back. I don’t want to waste that month not studying, so I would like to take one more exam by the end of the 4th quarter window (somewhere around the end of November).

    If I don’t pass FAR, which other exam would you suggest that is most similar to FAR (material wise)? I don’t want to go cold turkey on the FAR material, and feel like I’m starting over, if I have to take it again.

    FAR - [10/07/2013 --> 66] [07/07/2014 --> 86]
    BEC - [08/31/2014 --> 86]
    AUD - [11/24/2014 --> 88]
    REG - [02/14/2015 --> 92]

    If you already know you didn't give yourself enough time for FAR, I'd reschedule! Yes, you'll lose $35 but you'll increase your chances of actually passing on your first try! Unless you are exaggerating altogether 😉

    Next I'd suggest BEC because it's 1/3 of the material in terms of volume so it's a nice change after FAR. But if you want to take a part which kind of assumes the knowledge of GAAP, then you should choose AUD.

    REG is totally unrelated and tax income follows different rules vs book income so you can get confused.

    FAR: 81 (May 2013)
    BEC: 81 (July 2013)
    REG: 83 (August 2013)
    AUD: 82 (November 2013)
    California CPA since 1/30/14

    @RandomAlt,

    That's the key to these exams, we don't know until we receive the score, but if you want to keep moving while waiting on the score, go with Aud. for what I understand that FAR and AUD are similar in some materials. Should you take the test 10/7 you should still have time for one more test at the end of November. It will take some intense study though. Then if you don't pass, you can jump right in the next window. With that, if you fail it gives you a chance to clear your mind and re-group.

    No body wants to fail…..so give yourself the best chance to pass.

    It begins with a 75
    Been here too long as a cheerleader....ready to pass

    @tncincy – Thanks the the input.

    Yeah, my goal is basically to take FAR on the 7th and start studying the next week for a different section. I will find out while I am still studying for the next section whether or not I passed FAR. If I passed it, I move on to section 3 after the 2nd test in November. If I fail, I will start studying for FAR again…this time giving myself more time!

    If you think you don't have much time left, the last week before the exam try to re-read the most important material and/or memorize the notes and go through the topics you think are your weakest points. If you spend enough time understanding the concepts and memorizing the theory as opposed to practicing random MCQs, you should be able to do well on the exam and especially on simulations.

    I rarely practiced sims or the entire tests.

    Oh, and I'd suggest reviewing govt and NFP topics so you get this part right for sure.

    Good luck!
