Hi everyone, I’ve got to get this out of my head..I work in the small sized public accounting firm and in two years time everyone in the office has passed the exam except for me..@ first it didn’t bother me because I went for accounting to get a degree and get out of college so I have never gotten along with corporate headed people..i do not have friends in accounting either..i do not get along with my accountant co-workers and I do not see myself sitting behind a computer all day long BUT I’ve now worked here for 4+ years doing exactly that and I feel so sad, small and try not to be jealous…I try not to let it bother me but it does..and my bosses are pretty all right but they may soon kick me out as I still look and talk about CPA half-heartedly..and my coworkers are also very stuck up and not helpful at all..is anyone else in this situation where you are the only one that has not passed the cpa? how do you cope with this pressure every single day at work? 🙁 I’m generally a happy mellow and content person but as soon as i enter the office I become this sad sad person who is jealous of the coworkers that are not even half as smart but have managed to pass the CPA 🙁 Instead of being happy for them or admiring them for their dedication and accomplishment they just bother me so much:( Would it bother you to be in this situation?????

Maybe it's time to consider looking for a firm that might be a better fit? This is a very good time to look for a job – firms are staffing up for busy season…

I don't understand why you're sad? Is it because of the CPA-issue or because you don't like your behind-the-computer job or because you don't like the working environment?

If you're smarter than everyone there, just do it. Get your CPA and then check your emotions again.

And take a vacation, cause office work sucks and won't change 😛

Can I ask why you're doing this? From reading your post it doesn't seem like this is even what you want to do. (which may explain why someone more than smart enough to do this hasn't yet)

Life is too short. If this is what you WANT, then keep at it no matter how difficult the emotions are in the meantime. Getting to your goal is worth it.

If this is not your goal don't make yourself more miserable only because you're already invested in it!

I agree with mla, why are you subjecting yourself to this? If accounting isnt want you want to do then by all means look at other avenues. Just because you are not a CPA doesnt mean you cant be an accomplished individual. We all have different talents. Dont settle and dont be afraid. What is it you enjoy or what is it you do well? Are you doing this for family or because you dont know what you want to do? Is age a factor?

I cant wait for this to be over.

You do know you're at an accounting firm, right? so it might not be a great idea to “talk about the CPA half-heartedly.” You give off an “I don't care” attitude, and if you're like that at work, eventually your bosses will get rid of you (unless that's what you want).

Thank you all for your comments and reading my vent…

I was just feeling really really down and was questioning everything..why this why that and specially why CPA?!!…Its just part of life I guess…Its so hard to be focused and motivated all the time :(…I did want to switch jobs but I'm scared of taking the risk..and MOMCPA its really little bit of everything you've mentioned…partly because accounting is what I majored in..partly because I do not know what I want to venture in next..I will also be a certified yoga instructor and its just my hobby I do not see it as a profession as yet…partly because lot of things interest me but I can't pick one and focus on it….its a little bit of everything….age could also be a factor…I'm 28 and very confused about everything… I DO know why I need a CPA and for now this is really truly what I want because I feel it will make me more flexible…so for now I should just shut up and shut off all the distractions and keep at it…phew thank you and good luck to us all 🙂

Keep trying if you really want that CPA! I also work at a small accounting firm, but I guess opposite boat in that I just recently passed the Exam while my coworkers (majority) haven't. I don't know how it is at your firm, but my firm hardly even acknowledged that I passed the exam, so really they didn't care whether we have it or not. You have to want to do it for yourself and for the future. I also don't really get along with my coworkers and I feel like it kinda sucks all your energy out too 🙂 So you are not alone in that respect!
