SIMS are the popular computer game from the 1990s and early 2000s. You essentially build small cities and towns in this game. Whoever builds the best cities and towns passes the Exam! At least that was my experience. 😉

    AUD: 94 (Nov. 2013)
    FAR: 76 (Oct. 2013)
    BEC: 79 (Nov. 2012)
REG: 84 (Dec. 2013) It's Mile 26.2, and we finished. Blood, sweat and tears, passion, perseverance, and never giving up, we did it!

To distract you during your three MCQS testlets because you are praying to the CPA gods for luck of the draw on the SIMS and preferably two research questions!

Two research questions aren't necessarily a gift 🙁 Some can be tricky little time wasters.

I got two on REG and surprisingly couldn't answer one.

Some SIMs, as I'm sure you know, are just more MCQs in a different format. But in some are computational and you have to calculate numbers to answer them or to write journal entries. Even with the MCQ ones, some have long sets of word problems or fact patterns, as they're called.

I think the purpose is to get you to think more and work harder.

Actually I like MarathonRunner's answer best, lol. 🙂

Is it a abbrevation of sth? What are the letter of SIMS stand for? Do they account as your CPA grade?

    darkpurple,

In all seriousness, Sims are short for Simulations. On Audit, Regulation, and Financial, Simulations make up about 40% of your score. These are non-multiple choice questions. Essentially, these are typically fill in the blank or problems that require manual calculation and manual input. I hope this helps and best of luck!

I was really lucky to get 2 research questions on my AUD. And normally I am good at research questions. But not the same case when I was taking my FAR. I got 2 research questions, so I was really happy in the first place, I decided to nail them in 10 minutes to save some time and boot up some confidence for other 5 SIMS, then I totally went mad, because they are so hard! I can't find the answers for those 2 questions for like half an hour, then I gave up, put up whatever I can think of as the asnwer and moved to the remaining 5 SIMS. I felt very bad when I was doing the remaining 5 SIMS because I knew I totally bombed “supposed to be easy” research questions.

    AUD - 76 (May 2012)
    BEC - 81 (July 2012)
    REG - 61 (Aug 2012), rematch 83 (October 2012)
    FAR - 85 (May 2013)

    Based on Becker 2012 self-study.
Currently licensed PA CPA since July 2013.
