Using old materials for initial review

    Hello A71 forum. I am new to the website and thought I would ask this question. I am going to be taking the CPA but probably not until next year or so due to family. I do have some time to start studying now but not enough to fully commit to taking the CPA yet. When I am ready to go all out I was going to use Yaeger. I currently have older Becker materials (2009) that a friend gave me. I was thinking about starting to use this for my initial review of FAR and AUD even though some of the material will be outdated (i.e. REG/BEC). I do not have an accounting background so I figured the more material I look at the better. I wanted to get anyone’s opinion about whether using this older Becker material will be helpful or if this a waste of my time and should solely focus on Yaeger when studying next year? Thanks for the advice.

    @bond922,

    There is no point in getting old material to study with if you are not going to take any exams until next year. Browse maybe but not to actually study. The old material will not cover the updates or changes that may be necessary for next year. This is a costly exam with costly review materials, so I would start with the current materials when you are actually ready to start studying. Yeager is a good product and add ninja to supplement, if I might add. Also there are other sites with demo's to help make a decision on study materials. the choice would depend on how you learn best. Give yourself the best chance to pass….start with current materials.

    All of the material will be outdated. the 2009 study materials do not include IFRS which is now being tested. There have been too many changes since 2009. You can get the wiley cpa review books on amazon for about $40 each if you are set on starting your review now, and these are the books that Yaeger uses but I would just wait until next year.

    Thanks for the two posts, much appreciated. I will wait until next year and just use the current materials.
