Took FAR Today, Study the Next One?

Well, I just took FAR today and I felt pretty good on it. However, every single time I felt I did great on a test, it’s usually worse than what I expected. Yet, I don’t feel too bad; at least not yet.

So my real question/concern is, I’m planning to take AUD at the end of November. Should I start studying on it right away? But what if I didn’t pass FAR? There’s a saying that I agree with. The more you remember/learn, the more you forget. To counter that though, you can’t do a re-take of a test on the same window. So since I took FAR in October, I can’t take FAR in November. GOD! This is so frustrating! Anyone have any advice?

I probably have an answer to my own question, but I just felt like typing this up. Relieves some stress.

PS: More importantly, what did you do during the time while you wait for your grades? Assuming you don’t have a job/life to being with, lol

    FAR - 62 (10/2/13), 50 (5/30/14)
    AUD - 73 (10/30/13), 66 (5/6/14)
    REG - 69 (4/8/14)
    BEC - 66 (2/27/13), 73 (4/21/14)

    I keep studying.

Even FAR was my last exam, I kept studying during the score release waiting period because I thought I fail the the exam.

Move on to AUD. If you fail FAR, you have the whole month of December to re-study for it. There's no use wasting time studying for FAR when you may have already passed it.

    REG - 93 (7/30/13)
    BEC - 90 (8/19/13)
    AUD - 98 (8/31/13)
    FAR - 84 (10/19/13)

I agree that you should just move on to AUD. You can't take FAR anyway, so you might as well try to bang out AUD in the mean time. I think the two are somewhat related but still very different so as to not confuse you. This would be different advice if you wanted to move onto REG.

However, I've been only taking one exam per testing window, so I don't really have this issue. During the wait, I give myself a break from studying. The past times I've always had a vacation planned. But the max I've really had to wait is ~3 weeks. Once I get my score, I basically move on right away.

    R - *77*(02/'13)-Becker & NINJA
    A - 71('11); *87*(04/'13)-Becker & NINJA
    F - *76*(08/'13)-Becker & NINJA - "server upgrade" survivor
    B - 60('11); *82*(10/'13) -Becker & NINA

    DONE, DONE, AND DONE.

Thanks guys, I guess I'll move on to AUD. Very valid points.

@ neika822: I would love to have your kind of mindset, but I have a guilty conscience. Truth be told, I graduated in March and I still haven't found an accounting job or any job in that matter. Seems everyone throws the word “experience” wherever I go. I'm almost 30 and I'm still living with my mom. This is haunting me for a long time. I don't like comparing, but in my current situation, I have to. Even though my brother isn't doing better off, at least he's not living with us and actually working right now; jumping from state to state due to business travel. This is probably the only thing that I can do in order to prove that I'm not a failure in life. Changed my major, what…? 4 times?

But yeah, if I was working 40 hour weeks, I'd probably take one per test window as well. It's the fact that I got nothing better to do and plus the fact that I do have motivation; even though it's not a healthy one.

Also: It's not that I can't find a job. There's plenty of jobs out there that doesn't require college education. I'm just stubborn and want to get some accounting experience

    FAR - 62 (10/2/13), 50 (5/30/14)
    AUD - 73 (10/30/13), 66 (5/6/14)

@KADFC – you're not a failure if you're actively trying to improve your life. Lots of people are handed harder/easier lives than others. We do what we can. You should only compare yourself to yourself. Where were you 1 year ago? Are you happier now? Are you moving forward?

Can you at least try to get some tax experience this upcoming tax season, if you still don't have any options? Maybe try calling local CPA firms and offering your help for no pay to gain experience? Keep on top of your college career services and look for all options. Good luck! And good for you for getting the CPA done. That's a success right there.

@ neika822: A year ago I was still a student in college. Am I happier now? HAHA, that's a good question. Just finished my from FAR and I still have a small headache. On top of that, I'm waiting for my grade, which takes another month or so. I guess I was happy half a year ago because of the graduation part. Not sure if I'm happy or sad at the moment. My brain is quite… uhh, fried. x_x; But yes, I am moving forward.

Hmm, I'm not quite sure, but does tax count if I want to become a CPA? There was this thing called CashOregon which you basically volunteer to do tax during tax season. Should I consider this? About calling local CPA firms, my brother told me to do the same thing. He calls them “cold calls.” I'm not sure if I'm up for that. I have no strategy and honestly, I don't know where to begin. I was thinking about going back to my college's career service, but that puts me back into job hunting mode. I'd prefer staying in my study mode; is that a bad thing? I don't think I can keep switching between the two modes. The smallest distraction and I'm out of each mode.
