School has always come easy to me i would go to class pay attention ask questions take notes then study for 1-2 hrs before exam and get an A. As you know accounting is no joke and most of my friends/classmates had to study alot more but as i said school has always come easy to me.

Anyway I am starting to study for CPA REG and i managed to get the ninja note cards deal for $1 during the recent promotion. I will be ordering Wiley next week and start full out study sessions but even right now i am trying to study the notecards and am finding my self fighting not to go read yahoo articles, post on forums , text etc etc. Seems like my focus keeps going down after about 30 mins of reading the note cards.

Can you guys give me some tips ?? Do i need to go to the doctor and ask for some adderal … I want to be ready to tackle this test when i get that Wiley material in.

I have no advice but will tell you that I am struggling witht he exact same thing. I've also thought about going to the doc to ask for meds. I never had this issue in college even though I worked full time and sometimes with three jobs. I think I am just burned out by life! I'd love to hear feedback on this thread.

    FAR- 85 I'm DONE!
    BEC- 75

    AUD- 74,74,83

Get rid of FaceBook, Twitter, Pinterest or whatever pulls your thoughts away from the task at hand which is studying! It will all still be there after you pass.

Set smaller study blocks. If you can focus for 30-45 minutes make it quality and then get up and walk away..do jumping jacks…whatever…then do another study block.

    Good luck!

In addition to what Baxter said, what are you eating? If you don't eat a balanced diet and exercise, I can promise you that your studying will suffer. Been there and done that. Heck, I even ended up in the hospital when I was studying for FAR 3 years ago.

Stay away from sugary and heavily starchy foods plus eat more protein. Trust me on that. =)

This is normal. In the beginning of the process its hard to give up your leisure. After test #1 and around month four you'll realize that all leisure must be sacrificed to pass the exam. I'm a hard core kayaker that has not kayaked in 6 months! Everyday I walk past my dusty boats and take a seat at my desk to study. I'm currently on month #8 of my journey. At month #8 you will get excited about taking trips to the grocery store – my longest outing these days.

Truthfully, there is nothing you can really do except get through it. It's BORING stuff. NOONE wants to study this stuff and if they do, I will side eye them til the end of time. I have been on ADHD medication for over a year and it's still a struggle to get through this stuff! It's not you, it's the material.

Have a pep talk with yourself and just get the exams done. I have studied more for these four exams than I did for my Associates & Bachelors degrees combined, if that tells you anything about my attention span/disinterest in learning this stuff.

It is boring, plain and simple.

The Pomodoro technique has really helped me. If you have a Macbook you can go to the app store and they have plenty of free apps for it, basically you study for 25 minutes slots with scheduled breaks. Sometimes that is the only way I can get through material knowing that I have a break coming up.

Second the Pomodoro technique! Also the Chrome extension “StayFocusd” is EXCELLENT. I set it to “go nuclear” for an hour at a time (yes, that's longer than Pomodoro recommends, but it is what it is) and then I allow myself my 10-15 minute “screw around” break, then I “go nuclear” for another hour. It's gotten me through many long weekends of study study study.
