Giants13MemberHello,
I am currenty looking to get back into studying for the exams. I am just looking to hear how long it has taken people to study for the exams. Typically I have been hearing that AUD and BEC take a good 5 weeks, REG 7-8 weeks and FIN 9-10 weeks. I am currently working full time so I am just trying to get an idea as to how long it took some people (with or without full time jobs) just so I can get a game plan ready. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

lleonMemberDepends on your own learning style and how much time you can dedicate each week. For example, I studied just under 100 hours for FAR but did it over 6-7 weeks cuz I was only able to dedicate Saturday and Sundays to study.
overall my study time:
approx 96 hours FAR (6-7 weeks)
approx 30 hours BEC (4-5 weeks)
approx 25 hours AUD (4-5 weeks)
currently studying for REG, am at about 30 hours I believe and test date is in Jan 15.
id recommend to be realistic about how much time you WILL study every week (as opposed to how much you COULD) and stay dedicated. Good luck!

gt5717bParticipantBear in mind that the answers you get will be highly subjective. Everyone learns at a different pace. That being said, I budgeted 6-7 weeks for REG and FAR and 4 weeks for AUD and BEC. I ended up failing AUD but only got in about 4 weeks of study. After another 2-3 weeks for the retake, I did much better.
I worked full time for all exams and did most studying at night after the kids went to bed.
REG - 89
FAR - 84
AUD - 73, 86
BEC - 89GA Licensed CPA

AnonymousInactiveThere is no hard/fast way to determine how much time you'll need. A lot of it depends on your ability to learn (and retain) the information. A lot of it depends on your ability to solve MCQ questions and the Sims. Finally, a lot of it depends on how efficient your study time is.
Don't estimate for weeks, estimate for hours and try to establish a realistic study schedule. Budget extra days in case something comes up that messes up your original schedule. Budget time for rest and play (but not too much play!). You'll need to identify what your average pace is for reading and for doing groups of MCQ's (Mine is 10 pages/hr and 60 MCQ/hour). Budget for practice sims, videos/lectures as needed, and don't forget about final review time.
If you don't have any idea, I'd over-budget for the first test, then adjust as you figure what study methods work best for you. By the time you finish/pass your first test, you should have a reasonable basis to estimate how much time you'll need to use for future exams.

ymmitMemberThe people above are doing it very quickly compared to average, kudos to you guys on the great scores^^^
I studied for about 11 weeks for FAR probably 15-20 hours/week actual solid study time. I'm currently studying for REG and giving myself 11 weeks as well. It could probably be done in less but i'm not in any rush and want to be extra prepared. BEC and AUD I will give myself about 10 weeks each again at 15-20 hrs week. So total about 9 months roughly.
I work full time
Also I feel it is important to set hard dates to keep you motivated. The worst thing you can do while studying IMO is keep the option in the back of your mind that you may change the date.

lleonMemberTo add to my post, its important to know I just got my bachelors in may and am currently doing macc, so lots of the material was fairly fresh. Also, I was still in “school mode” where I'm used to sitting down studying and used to exam taking strategies. If you've been out of school, account for the possibility that you might struggle to get into school mode.

jfreelovMemberMy times were pretty similar to lleon's:
FAR – 100 hours over 16 weeks (slightly overprepared)
REG – 60 hours over 8 weeks (adequately prepared)
BEC – 16 hours over 4 weeks (adequately prepared, but I was a an Econ major and this hit all my strong topics)
AUD – 40 hours over 4 weeks (adequately prepared)
I strongly suggest taking full-length exams once per week with Wiley Test Bank. Then, each week, study the chapter(s) with the highest Freelove Index.
Freelove Index = (100 – Chapter Score) / (Length of the chapter in pages)
FAR - 71, 94
BEC - 91
REG - 51, 88
AUD - 89December 21, 2013 at 2:13 am #496581
