I am very close to giving up on the whole CPA Exam process, and Accounting in general. Here’s why..

It’s 5:30am and I am studying so much, but getting nowhere. I already passed AUD and BEC in the 80/90s and took REG last week. So what’s the problem you ask?

I currently work for a Big 4, which thankfully gave me 7 weeks time off to study for the REG and FAR. My only problem is I do not feel that is enough time. I studied REG for 3 weeks and took the exam last week, but I have to wait until August 22nd to get my score back. In addition, I have only ONE month of full-time studying for FAR. Furthermore, my AUD expires 9/2. So basically, if I don’t pass FAR and REG by August, I have to retake AUD.

The problem is when I get back to work in September, I am on several busy jobs literally until the end of “busy season” in April/May. Not to mention, BEC expires in December. I tried to ask to get off them, but we are already understaffed.

Long story short, I don’t know if I can pass FAR in one month, I don’t know if I passed REG, but I do know my time is ticking and work is to busy for even the Jeff’s ELL method.

Any advice? I am seriously just thinking of quitting everything.

That's interesting Gian. I'd rather sleep 5-6 hours a day during the 6 weeks of studying and then 8 hours the night before the exam. Everyone is different tho.

Do NOT give up. I did this and came back a year later to finish the exam. You will regret it and feel bitter everytime people bring up the CPA Exam.

I read these posts and it helps boost my morale. THEN, I watch the lectures and read the notes very carefully while taking notes.(Becker) Then I get 50s on the homework questions and there goes my morale again…Grr

The becker homework questions are notoriously hard. You will be thankful come exam day, because typically the actual questions are easier than Beckers.

Don't pay attention to scores when you are learning/practicing the material– it is taking up valuable real estate in your brain. You need that space for remembering the material, not the score you got on such and such chapter two days ago and negative self-talk.

I don't know how Becker works, but is it possible for you to do just one problem, then look at the answer and get the feedback, before going on to the next problem? I do one textbook problem at a time that way. I don't score myself. I just keep doing a problem, getting feedback, going on to the next one, and so forth. That way I keep building on my knowledge base from the previous problems.

Even if I'm working in WTB, I never guess. If I don't know how to do it, I look it up. I use my resources as I practice so that I am constantly reinforcing the material, rather than reinforcing wrong answers. I need my resources less and less as I build confidence in the material.

    AUD 84 (1/9/14-Wiley books/TB + free materials)
FAR 83 (5/21/14-the above + NINJA 10 Pt Combo Lite)
    REG 84 (7/9/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC/Notes)
    BEC 76 (10/5/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC)

^ Thats some solid advise right there. If I receive a failing score again for REG… Im going to change my study strategy to this.
