The new study strategy that finally worked – cramming

I have been lurking on here since I started the process on January 3rd, 2012. I was using Becker. I watched every single video, made sure I did all of the multiple choice and…. failed every exam except for BEC. So I thought, maybe I didn’t do enough multiple choice questions, so I did them all over again… and failed again…

Something wasn’t working. I have an excellent short term memory but I felt like I never remembered any of the details on the exams.

Frustrated, I purchased the ninja notes to try something different. Here is the new strategy that I used. I waited to post to see if it actually worked. I just passed AUG with an 84, my previous score was a 65 – a huge improvement.

Step 1: Spend one week or less writing ALL of the ninja notes by hand. Buy a notebook and just do it.

Step 2: Spend one week doing ALL the multiple choice questions for all sections. Make sure everything is 100% completed. Take notes!

Step 3: Spend one day going through the entire textbook and take notes on only the most important pieces of information.

Step 4: Pretend you can take a cheat sheet into the exam. Compile all the information you’ve taken notes on and only write down the MOST important things/things you have trouble remembering. It should ONLY be formulas/mnemonics/lists. No definitions or paragraphs! It should be only one front page, no more.

Step 5: The morning on the exam, literally, right before you go in, make sure you have EVERYTHING on that sheet memorized to perfection.

During the exam, take that 10 minutes before you start (the time they give you to read the directions) to replicate your cheat sheet on your scrap paper.

I would post my summarized one page cheat sheets that I’ve done but I don’t know if it’s allowed due to copyright, etc. but I doubt they’d make much sense anyways. The point is for you to do all the notes yourself.

I hope this plan helps someone! It takes only 2 weeks of cramming.

    FAR: 72, 68, 73, 78 (passed)
    REG: 61, 70, 73, 63, 78 (passed)
    AUD: 65, 84 (passed)
    BEC: 89 (passed)

NASBA gave Doby a passing score, Doby is freeee!!

Good job! I am a firm believer on the importance of cramming of these exams. You obviously want to give yourself time to go over all the material, but the more time you give yourself, the less efficient you become. It's all about knowing your strengths, making a plan, and sticking to it…no matter what!

I take a similar approach in that I don't start taking notes until about 1 week before my exams and after I've done all the MCQs.

P.S. I am also a Manuelolieber, does anyone know if he passed??

I cram until 5 minutes before going into Prometric…

@Jenuno…I don't think Manuelo got his score yet..

I'm all about cramming as well. Staying at the library until close (midnight) the week of the exam gets a lot of things accomplished. Back in school, the library would stay open 24 hours.

Good work on finding your study habits!

Damn, now I'm rethinking my strategy. I finished all the material a lot quicker than I predicted and I have 23 days till exam and I've already went through all of my material and have done the MC once. I'm about to start my 2nd practice of all the MC. Normally I finish my material 2 weeks before exam, then I start my 2nd round of becker MC, 1st round of Wiley questions, and start committing all the formula/mnemonics to memory…….

Dualmatrix, are you working full time? I'm just asking because your picture makes you look like you just graduated. If so, I think you probably could spend much less time reviewing. Granted, I usually memorize the formulas and mnemonics the first time through. Although it looks like your study strategy is working so I guess no point in really changing it.

Yeah, I just graduated. Not going to enjoy looking for employment cause I screwed around during school and my GPA isn't very good. I'm going 110% on this exam because I really want to be done so I can get on with my life. I missed so many beach outings. I'm worried with so many days till my exam, I'm going to start forget a lot of the small details.

I will definitely be using ti807910's advice and cram like a maniac once my exam date approaches.

    Thanks bro!
