The AICPA and flags….

I don’t know if this has ever been brought up before but I was thinking about it today:

It’s great that the AICPA makes convenient little flags on our CPA Exams so we can tag questions we find difficult. However, does anyone know if there is a secondary motive to this? I.E., they throw in a bunch of test questions, and while grading the exam, they see which ones were flagged by candidates. “These must be ‘hard’ since so many candidates put a flag on it”

Or even more conspiracy theory-like, “Wow, this candidate flagged a bunch of easy questions….74 it is!!!!!”

Just some random thoughts. Happy score release day, everyone.

Haha. I thought of the same way. I'm glad I'm not the only one.

I deflagged those questions after I revisited just for that reason. 😛

Who knows? You could even go further, if your into conspiracy theory, and be concerned that they might not pass candidates who flag more than 30 😮 I doubt this is the case, but since know one really knows how these exams are graded its funny to mention. It would be a good indicator who is guessing on most of their questions.

I personally didn't flag any on my FAR exam because I felt rushed and didn't see any benefit to jumping around the exam. If I ever feel like I have time to spare on these exams I will definitely take advantage of this feature.

I spoke to an ancient wise man who sent me on a mushroom induced journey through an ancient forest to find the key to passing the CPA exam. A talking spider monkey told me to throw the last of my drinking water in the dirt to find what I was looking for. So I followed his instructions and the following message appeared in the soil:

"Do 5000 multiple choice questions for each section"

Haha this made me chuckle…hey, who knows!??! I personally didn't flag any questions on any of the 4 exams, but that's more because I am a strong believer in reading the question carefully the first time and going with my gut. I never go back to a question because then I fear I'll talk myself out of what may have been the correct answer haha.

I flagged anywhere between 5-9 questions per testlet on each exam – just so I can estimate the number of MCQs I possibly missed and kind of predict my final score…..Passed all 4 parts with 80s, so that wouldn't fit the theory…..but who knows…..

    FAR: 81 (May 2013)
    BEC: 81 (July 2013)
    REG: 83 (August 2013)
    AUD: 82 (November 2013)
    California CPA since 1/30/14
