[CPA2013]

I take FAR tomorrow and I was curious about the difficulty of testlets changing. I think some people mention that it gets harder or easier based on your first testlet, is that right? If that’s right… then I assume you want your second and third ones to be difficult right? Or is this all speculation and it might just be random?

AICPA handbook mentions they will get more difficult if you are doing well… but us saying we think it's getting more difficult is our own speculation 🙂

yes there are different difficulties to the testlets

It starts out (1) Medium … if you do well … (2) Difficult … if not (2) Medium … if you do well … (3) Difficult … if not … (3) Medium

@tncincy it is all really, really subjective. My first two tests, FAR and AUD were stupid easy (in my opinion). I couldn't tell a change in difficulty level at all. I mean nothing. Passed those two and even walked out with a hint of arrogance about it. Then I took REG, and that was the first test I could tell had a blatant change in difficulty from one testlet to another. Reality hit me in the face and I walked out of there looking like a whipped puppy. Took BEC, and the same thing, probably more than any other test. First testlet was pretty rough, second one just knocked me on my butt. I got so mad that I just laughed. At any rate, I passed the first three tests with pretty good scores (haven't gotten BEC score yet). I lost the point I was trying to make, but, if I was making one, it is this: it doesn't always matter how “difficult” your test seemed. These things are such a crap shoot you never know.

keep in mind. MED testlets have hard questions and HARD testlets have med questions, its just the ratio of hard/med that dictates the overall classification.
