Test Taking Experience – On the Location & Exam

I am taking FAR soon and one of the advice that I have never heard before is to take ear plugs because the my testing location has thin walls. So that brings up the question, what else should I bring?

My second question is on the actual exam. Becker sets up the final practice exam as 100 MCs. But obviously on the real test, its MCs + Sims. I imagine that all MCs are 4 choices (A,B,C,D) and so, pretty much straight forward. But, are Becker sims accurate as well in terms of the presentation? Would I only use the “Authoritative Literature” tab for FASB ASC questions?

Thank you all for your input.

MAKE SURE to have your NTS with you or they won't allow you to take the exam. Also make sure you have your ID and that everything matches the NTS exactly (someone here had a problem because their drivers license said Nicholas and their NTS said Nick or something like that).

The only thing you're allowed to bring into the test room itself is your ID, your locker key and the soft earplugs. And definately bring those. The guy sitting next to me last time made groaning noises for 4 hours and I wanted to strangle him with the cord to my mouse. If I wasn't afraid I'd waste too much time from my exam, I would have done it!

    Good luck!

    @mla1169,

Gotta love the weird sounds. I tested at a facility where they tested the fire alarm for a good 20 minutes. Nothing can block that sound out!!

    BEC: 75 11/8/10
    AUD: 89 2/22/11
    FAR: 78 5/17/11
    REG: 72, 83 10/17/11
    DONE!!!!

HA!! mla1169 I am definitely bringing soft ear plugs .. I would be the same as you. Any little noise especially someone groaning next to me and I might lose it.

What about as far as how to dress? I've heard dress in layers, but I've also heard that some test sites won't allow you to take off any sweaters that you may have on when you are there… I am usually cold but if I get hot I don't want to sit there and sweat!

The day of the groaner, (end of August) it was FREEZING in there. Call and ask your site but what mine told me about taking off a sweater is you're not supposed to but if you tie it around your waist and sit back down, technically you haven't taken it “off” (their loophole)

haha mla1169, i'm sorry that you had to go through the groaning noises. I'm still laughing, lol.

Does anybody have any comment on sims? I realize the questions are going to be very different from Becker, but how about the actual layout? And why is it that some people are clicking exit a bit early? (is it placed weirdly? lol)

Ya make sure ur ID hasn't expired. Read a few posts here where the candidate didnt realize their drivers license expired and they couldn't take the test. I brought some nasal spray and eye drops to refresh my eyes and breathing passages. I also brought medicine for diarrhea and headaches and allergies just in case!!! Just put them in the locker

    NEW YORK- DONE
