Sorry everyone but I need to vent a bit.

My husband has been very supportive and patient with me studying but sometimes he’ll say something to tick me off. Tonight we were having a little family time with our girls and watching the Buffalo Sabres game on tv and we were chit chatting about something, I can’t remember what, but my exams came up. Then he asked me “Are you still going to be sitting for these exams 20 years from now if you don’t pass?”

That hurt!! I called him on that too. I said “That question is like stabbing me in the back and twisting it.” I know he hates his job and he’s a little down since he hurt himself at work, but that was totally uncalled for.

Here I am running on little sleep and working my tail off to pass these exams and I get that!!!

My daughter has my back though. She said “Dad, Mom’s going to pass this year and we are going to Disney to celebrate.” I promised her a while back that once Mommy done with all this studying we’ll take a family trip to Disney.

That’s my goal, besides the the little letters after my name.

Started sitting in May 2002, on and off. But since 2008 I've been nonstop and my scores are....
    AUD - 39, 48, 56, 65, 68, 73, 76!!! (Finally passed in Oct 2011!!!) Becker, NINJA, & Wiley
    REG - 75 (Lost Credit) 72, 68, 73, 75 (Passed again in Aug 2011) Becker, NINJA, & Wiley
    FAR - 65, 68, 75 (Lost Credit) 68, 73, 73, 80 (Passed again in May 2012) Roger, NINJA, & Wiley
    BEC - 65, 68, 71, 72, 72, 71, 76 (Lost Credit)- 70, 76!!!! I AM DONE!!! - Roger, NINJA, & Wiley
After 10 long years of studying, I AM DONE!!!! Finally a Licensed CPA in the State of New York!!

haha, I am so glad I am not the only one! My sister asked me how long it takes to pass FAR. And I said people who record their hours need from 140-300 hours. She told me why couldn't I pass by taking 2 weeks off. I just wanted to punch her.

She also called me a retard for skipping out on family dinners. Ughhh. So caustic sometimes.

@CPAEnding. I am sorry to hear the sad news.

@EELCPA, I miraculously passed the exam without ever fully understanding variances. But I extremely do not recommend it. I had 3 questions which I am sure were worth many points. Also I murdered economics and financial management which had saved me from variance and IT. Stupid IT. and I cut it really damn close.

    Balance. We all need balance.

Mine is supportive because (as I posted in another thread) this exam means a HUGE increase in household income. As in poverty level to livable level. Is he happy? No. He keeps saying he wants his wife back. Especially when it is crunch time (like now.) I am 6 days from BEC, and still hitting high 70s/low 80s in the Wiley Test Bank.

When he complains about the time I am spending, I just ask what exactly does he think me working FT is going to be like?!?!?!

I've already started discussing the splitting up of responsibilities. I will do the bills and grocery shop. Dh is doing the cooking. I'll pack lunches. The rest of the housework? There are SEVEN other people in this house, and only the 3yo gets a pass.

In other words, I think the “support” test will come when I get a job!

To the OP – sometimes we say things we don't mean when we are stressed or hurting. If overall he is a good guy, extend some grace.

    REG - 89
    BEC - 82
    FAR - 87
    AUD - 81
Used CPAexcel, Wiley Online Practice, and NINJA!

@jomarie, our fathers must be distant cousins or something! On the topic of work experience my dad said something along the lines of “Can't someone just sign it and put CPA after it?”. Apparently I'm supposed to fool the state board into thinking that I've earned my work experience so that I can get my license sooner, lol.

@Home Stretch,Thanks so much for the reassurance! I definitely needed to hear it from someone today. I'm starting to get the variances now….I'm using the “PURE” and “DADS” mnemonics and I've tried them out on a few problems and it seems to be working for me. I'm a little iffy on Financial Mgmt (but getting better) and I haven't touched IT or Economics yet–I'll have those done by the end of this week so I'll have a better understanding of all my weak areas by Sunday.

I agree w/ Home Stretch that I passed BEC without fully understanding the variances. I told myself that I needed to know enough to be dangerous. I think I got about 1/2 of the questions correct. The other ones, I seriously sat there and just kept multiplying numbers together to see if I could arrive at one of the choices! As you can see from my signature, I squeaked by. It's possible. I ran out of time at the end of my review and could not nail the variances down.

My spouse is supportive, but I feel like his patience is wearing thin. I feel like he is probably thinking (internally) that he was going to be supportive the FIRST time through. But now that I have retakes, I think he's getting sick of it. I had to miss out on Mother's Day parties last week and he was like, “You have to miss so much for this exam!” And I just said, “Well, until I'm a CPA, I'll be missing stuff and that's just the way it goes.

I feel like everyone (work, home, kids) are supportive on the first go-round and then it starts getting annoying to them. This is one of the reasons I haven't passed – because I haven't been persistent enough. I took the exam right out of school and failed and then again in 2008. But those times, I studied for 2 weeks before the test and got in the 60s. (Maybe I should update my signature??)

    REG - 80 (Becker only)
    BEC - 76 (Becker only)
    AUD - 71, 76 (Becker only)
FAR - 65, 74, 81! (Becker, Wiley Test Bank, Ninja notes & Audio)

    CPA Class of 2012 🙂

    Oh 1 more thing –

@HomeStretch – I have so many people asking why I can't just cram two weeks before the test and pass FAR. Isn't it just like a college final? I don't even dignify that question with a response! Or the best – it'll be a Thursday and I'll have the test Monday and my husband will be like, “you're golden! You have all day Fri, Sat and Sun to study!”

They just have no clue. 🙂

    REG - 80 (Becker only)
    BEC - 76 (Becker only)
    AUD - 71, 76 (Becker only)
FAR - 65, 74, 81! (Becker, Wiley Test Bank, Ninja notes & Audio)

    CPA Class of 2012 🙂

    AUD-54,60's,65,83*,69,80
