Studying w/o reading the Book

Has anyone studied and actually passed without reading the book? It takes me about 2-3 hours to read one chapter and I get so bored. Does it matter what section that’s being studied if you don’t read the book?

Normally, I’ll watch the lecture, read the chapter, write notes, then do MCQs.

I did not read the book really, but I did take notes in a notebook over every chapter using the highlighting that Becker makes you do, which made me spend about 2-3 hours a chapter. Then, I went through the Ninja notes and took more notes.

So, no, not the book, but I read my notes over and over.

I passed without reading a book. For some reason I was able to retain enough knowledge by listening to lectures and doing MCQ. Understanding why I missed each MCQ was probably the most beneficial of all my studying.

I think I'm going to try combining reading/listening to lecture. As I'm going through the lecture, pause and read the parts that the lecture skips. This could possibly shave off 2 hours. I'll try it with the next chapter and see how it works. I just can't stand reading the entire chapter. I tried getting through Reg chapter 1 during my lunch hour today and only got through 15 pages because I was falling asleep and would just sit there periodically doing nothing.

Oh, oh, oh…backup on what I said. You just reminded me that you need to read the BEC stuff that Becker either doesn't talk about or touches lightly on. Yes, your idea to do that is perfect. Maybe not only BEC, but specifically on BEC I think you get shorted by not doing that.

The only sections that I have read for any of the exams have been the internal audit section and the additional IT section in B-4 from becker. I watch the lectures, do the MCQ, make flashcards for important sections, then move on. Has worked well thus far but I will let you know on friday once I find out my FAR score if I will be changing up this method…

I passed 3 out of 4 sections on my first attempt so far without reading any of the books. I listened to the lectures sometimes more than once and worked MCQ's and SIMs. Hoping for another passing score for BEC tomorrow without having read that book either not even that IT and Internal Audit sections not addressed in the lectures.
