What do you guys think about studying for FAR and AUD the same time? Presently I’m almost done watching all of the videos for FAR with Yaeger while taking intense notes. I was thinking when I’m done watching all of the videos, I can start doing non stop MCQ’s for FAR while watching AUD videos and taking notes for that. Can you guys give me some feedback on how effective this plan is? Knocking out two sections in one window would be great.

You can knock two sections out in one window without studying two sections at a time. If you can take FAR by the 3rd (maybe even 4th) week of October, you'll still have time to study and take AUD by the end of November. While I'm sure studying two or more at the same time can and has been done with success, you are going to give yourself a better chance to pass if you focus on one exam at a time.

The thing is I was going to take the entire month of October to review for FAR. So while reviewing, I was just going to get the videos out the way. Auditing is all theory so I don't really find it overwhelming. Plus my auditing knowledge is still there since I took the class this summer. I might try it out and see. I definitely think it can be done.

Sooo, theoretically couldn't you take the time you set aside to watch AUD videos and keep studying FAR? Then you'd be done a week or so early….

Also, I just realized you are already through all of the FAR videos. You definitely dont need a whole month to review. Two or three weeks tops.

I definitely agree it can be done, I just think it will be easier if you do one at a time. What do I know though….

I agree with mini. Even though audit is mostly theory, both sections have an insane amount of rules to memorize. Best of luck to you!

You can definitely study for 2, or 3, or all 4 parts at once and still pass. People used to have to take all four parts over two days and they would study for 6 months before. Now that we can take one part at a time everyone focuses on doing just one part at a time, but in my experience, the ability to switch gears even for just a half-hour a day can be a complete mental refresher. You shouldn't be studying one single topic for more than 15 minutes at a time; its scientifically proven the synapses get “tired” and you stop building connections, a.k.a. you stop learning new stuff and it becomes harder to recall what you do know which can undermine your progress.

Plus, you're only watching the videos and taking notes for auditing, its not like you're trying to memorize all the rules yet. I say go for it and report back on how you feel it went! Also, a hint for auditing, I think flashcards are definitely the best way to go for learning it. Watch the videos and take good notes then turn every bit of the notes into flashcards using a free program (I use RepetitionsFree, which also plans out your studying) and then just do a ton of MCQs.

When people used to take all 4 parts over 2.5 days, it was before SOX and many other changes that makes the exam cover much more information than it did in the 1990's and earlier.

CPA1FRESH, have you taken any sections yet? Especially if this is your first time sitting, I'd move FAR up as soon as possible then schedule AUD for later in the window like Mini said.

Personally I wouldn't even consider studying for 2 at the same time.

@mla I definitely agree there is more on each exam now and probably more in-depth as well. But the point I was trying to make is people think you are crazy if you study for 2 at a time when people used to do all 4 at once and pass (i just didn't make that point very clearly lol). And you made another good point asking CPA1FRESH if this was the first exam; I was very anxious just to take one and see what it was like so I couldn't even study properly for one exam, let alone two.

Yes, FAR will be my first section. As for AUD, it was just to take notes and watch the videos and that's the end of that. Then once I'm done with FAR exam, its just re-reading my notes for AUD and doing alot of MCQ's.
