This upcoming FALL 2012 I will be taking my last class for my MS in accounting.

I wanted to purchase Roger CPA and ninja noted in the August and start studying for the exam.

Should I start in the FALL or wait until JAN 2013 to start CPA review?

Will my prep course material be out of date if I take the exams in 2013?

I am finishing up my MS in Accounting right now and taking the CPA exam. However, my only class is Becker review course offered through the university which counts as an elective for my program. So I am only studying for the CPA exam but I feel like it will be worth it once I graduate. You should be able to take one class and manage the CPA exam as well. They don't let us take more than one class at my school if you are in the CPA review course because they want you focusing all of your time towards it. The sooner you get it done the better, so if I were you I would go ahead and plan on studying for it when you are still in school. It is going to be really nice to have finished the CPA exam a month and a half before I even start working!

    BEC - Feb 2012: 80
    AUD - Feb 2012: 84
    FAR - Apr 2012: 78
    REG - May 2012: 90

    Thanks Becker!

Texas27 – thanks for the feedback. I'm currently attending University of Dallas, so I'm in DFW area.

This last class is my capstone – accounting theory – mostly writing and research.

    So fall 2012 – 1 graduate class,Roger CPA & ninja notes. I think it’s reasonable.

So when should I take the exam OCT and NOV ??

Beginning and ending plant assets are, respectively, $325,000 and $370,000. Beginning and ending accumulated depreciation is, respectively, $82,800 and $95,000. Depreciation expense for the period was $30,000, and new assets of $76,000 were purchased. Plant assets were sold at a $10,500 loss. What were the cash proceeds from the sale?

You could start in the fall if you wanted to. Not sure the difference if any between 2012 and 2013 materials.

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

Massachusetts CPA (non reporting) since 3/12.

Thanks for all the feedback. I will start studying in the FALL and will try to get two exams out of the way.

I would recommend starting in the fall while taking classes. I did it last fall, and it was such a relief to be halfway done with the CPA test when I graduated. My grades suffered a little bit because I would always choose to study for the CPA over grad school, but what a drop of .01 doesn't really matter on your grad school GPA when you have your CPA. Plus, it should free up some time after graduation for you to travel/chill.

    BEC - 85
    REG - 77
    AUD - 73, 83
    FAR - 68, 89

So here is my plan for summer: I have 2 classes:

Saturday class – 4 weeks: intermediate managerial accounting – book used is Gleim 2012 BEC

Wednesday class – 12 weeks: Business Communication

After my 4 week class is done I plan on purchasing Roger CPA and Ninja Notes.

My goal is to study for BEC and attend my business communication class and take BEC at the end of JuLY 2012.

Then during my FALL class which is Accounting Research: I can study for another exam and take it in NOV 2012.

And I also work full time.

    Does this plan sound okay?

It can be done. I started studying for AUD last April while I was taking my last two Master's classes. Though I was not able to spend as much time on the CPA as I would have liked, I took my first exam in July and passed. I just buckled down for 3 weeks between graduation and my first exam.

Good luck. I'm sure you will make a plan that works for you.

    AUD: 07/11/11 - Passed
    BEC: 08/27/11 - Passed
    FAR: 01/17/12 - Passed
    REG: 04/30/12; Re-take 7/16/12 - Passed

    FINISHED!!!!!!!!

I don't think you'll have any problems completing BEC before your summer classes are over. Your 4 week class will provide a solid base for BEC, and you will probably just need to review for a week or two before taking the actual exam.

As far as the fall semester goes, I would recommend taking the exam in the area that you feel most comfortable with. While it might be easier to take audit, it would also suck to save FAR and REG for last. If you feel comfortable with FAR or REG, I would recommend trying to knock one of those out. The good thing is that you still have a few months to make a decision.

It might be miserable at times to work full time, take classes, and study, but it will be completely worth it when you complete this exam as fast as possible.

    BEC - 85
    REG - 77
    AUD - 73, 83
    FAR - 68, 89
