Before I ask my question, let me give a little background so it is understood better. I graduated University with a degree in accounting four years ago. Since then, I have worked in other non-accounting related fields except for one three month stint as a bookkeeper at a small business. I have been wanting to get back into accounting for about a year now but always felt that I had taken too much time away from it and I didn’t know how to go about getting back into it. I recently decided to jump back in and am enrolled in a Becker course that starts July 8th on Regulation. I then plan on taking the Reg exam at the end of August. My question is, should I spend these next three weeks studying Regulation in preparation for the class/test or should I review accounting principles and information? I am pretty rusty and I know I need to put in my time than the average person because of those gap years. Also, I have the complete 10 point Ninja program to work from as well.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Is there a specific reason you chose REG first?

    BEC 8/14/14 - Passed
    Graduated from college 12/13/14
    AUD 8/31/15 - 74. Retake - Passed
    REG
    FAR

It is the course that was being offered first by Becker. I am taking a live class.

study tax! I would start watching the lectures online (take notes) and then go to class. It works best to review the lectures and do homework prior to class. So start up with R1 tomorrow (watch the lecture), try to get some homework done (maybe 25%), then watch R2, take notes and do (25% of the questions). My schedule covered 2 lectures per week so I watched them both prior, I did not have time to start on the homework before class most of the time, BUT I WOULD HAVE BEEN SO MUCH BETTER IF I HAD STARTED HOMEWORK BEFORE CLASS.

Then on your first class you will not only be seeing the information again (which works great for actually getting it into your head) but you will be able to ask the important questions.

    So start R1 tomorrow.

    I did Becker live.

Thanks Java!!!! I have been looking through old textbooks and stuff like that and I didn't know if I was wasting valuable time that should rather be directed towards studying for the actual exam parts. I will start listening to the Ninja Audio and watching the courses tomorrow!

HI KateL, yes, it would be best use of time to direct your time to Becker. Honestly, I wish someone would have told me that. I spent a few weeks reviewing my college book but I should have just jumped into Becker and started the material. You will need all the time you can get. On the multiple choice questions, make sure you read all the answers (not only when you get it wrong) but when you get it right. You really want to make sure you are not getting the RIGHT answer for the WRONG reason. Your ahead, stay ahead, watch the lectures online and start on the homework. You will see on day one about 75% of the class already watched the lectures online. Although after that, people struggled keeping up. Give yourself a head start and start on the material as early as you can. I am sure you will do great.
