I use Steve Martin’s MDS CPA Review as my review course (with ninja supplementing) and I am having trouble seeing how i did/what the correct answer to the practice exam SIMS are. Anyone else having this issue?

This is a very good question. I'm using WTB as I could never figure it out. You can try and e-mail Steve and see what he says.

    Starting all over.

well his response (in typical steve martin style) was as follows “please read the homework instruction at the end of the first chapter of the book”……..anyway. the book states that the simulations are NOT graded by the study buddy software. Merely (LOL) look up the answers at the end of the chapter of the book. The simulations are not designed to teach you exam content . They are to be used to familiarize yourself with the structure of the simulation questions.

That's funny, I got the same response, only he bolded certain words.

It's really not helpful at all, especially if you're missing concepts in the simulations. Wish this was spelled out before I purchased it. Glad I got the WTB (Thanks Jeff!). Kind of a waste to put the sims in your review course if it's there to merely help you with formatting, style, etc. Just my opinion though, maybe you (and others) like it that way.

no i agree….it is a really dumb format. This is def the most frustrating part of his review course. How are the WTB simulations?

They work fine. Probably not much different in terms of content. It helps that immediately after I go through a set, I can get an explanation/reasoning (read: ANYTHING!) rather than just looking at the answers and trying to decipher what I missed. It probably isn't a terrible format, but it could easily be improved. “Grading” simulations in a test bank or review software isn't the greatest or always 100% accurate, but it shouldn't be too hard to provide a general idea if you're on the right track.

I agree with you guys. Steve doesn't put very much emphasis on simulations, which I don't fully agree with. Wiley's CPATestBank.com offers 24-hour free trials of their software, and they do grade sims and include explanations. I just keep making dummy e-mails to practice sims. Their multiple choice questions are pretty similar. Just a suggestion!
