Is there a state that doesn’t require strictly public accounting experience (private, govt, npo) while also not requiring direct supervision by an active CPA?

It’d be great if they also only required 120 hours!

    DOES THIS PERFECT STATE EXIST?

I don't know of any state that would have such low requirements, and honestly I would be disappointed if some states allowed candidates to be CPA's without adhereing to the same higher requirements as all the other states. In CA, they are eliminating pathway 1 that would have allowed candidates to apply with licensure with only 120 units and 2 years of experience under the supervision of a CPA. Now you must have at least 150 units, with the additional 30 to be made up of 20 accounting and 10 ethics units.

As the exam gets more difficult, and pathways to licensure have increasingly more requirements, how does this affect people who are already CPA's? Will CPE requirements also be increased? For example, I thought I heard that CPA's with an inactive license may not longer call themselves CPA's, or that they must disclose their inactive status. Anyone have any info on this?

From what I've heard, public accounting experience is not required. Just direct supervision by a CPA.

    FAR: 71, 77
    BEC: 70, 82
    AUD: 62, 78
    REG: 71, 68, 85

    CA Licensed 11/2011
