Starting in Big 4 and Studying for the Exam

    Hi everyone,

I’m starting at a Big 4 in Chicago very soon and would love some advice on studying while working. Right now I plan to be just about done with FAR studying and reviewing until I take the test on 8/31 which will pretty much mean I’ll just be finishing training. Do you guys know about what time training usually goes until? If I could be home by 7:00 and get three hours in that would be awesome.

After training and my first test I’m hoping that I can maintain about 3 hours a night by getting home around 7:00 through the end of 2013. I’ll also get in about 20 hours on the weekend.

So my main question is for you Big 4 people what time can I expect to be out of work? Also are there a lot of casual dinner type events I’ll have to go to? That would seriously kill some study time…

Any other tips on studying while working would be appreciated!

You'll be wiped out both physically and mentally for at least a month. However, good thing that FAR will be taken and out of way – you are doing yourself great service!

My advice, as soon as you take FAR, start next section like AUD while not working b/c it gets stressful at least initially and you might not have ability to study during those 3 hours remaining. Keep posted of how it all works out for you.

my advice is “depends on what section u will be in in the big 4″…because normally, as far as i know, none of my friends in big 4 has time to successfully or smoothly finish all 4 cpa exams while working in the big 4-just have no time, even in the non-business hours…if u r doing aud, do ur self a favor, review far first; if in tax, do reg first…and someone above said a right thing-after u finish reviewing 2, schedule the exam otherwise u will see the time expires and u still don't pass all 4-it just happens a lot…

I won't be able to start AUD before I start and won't have taken FAR before I start either, I'll just have finished my initial go through of the book and will be starting my review. I pretty much have to finish this fight while I'm working so there's really no other options. Hopefully I can fight through the exhaustion or I'll try the getting up early method many people have found successful.

I'll be starting AUD a day after I take FAR so that shouldn't be too much of a issue. I'm not planning on any breaks because I really want to finish before the end of the year. I'll be sure to keep everyone here posted.

Good to know I'm not the only one attempting this! If I uncover some ancient study trick I'll let you know also
