    I had one brief dating misadventure during REG. It reinforced the idea that I'm better off remaining single until this exam process is over with.

    @jomarie,

    If I were with any of my exes I wouldn't be where I am today either. Good riddance to those losers!

    My relationship ended last week (predictably) and she mentioned it was partially because “all you do is study”, which made her “bored”. I have FAR 8/31, and it's been really fun to try and focus on that while dealing with the breakup as well. Thanks a lot, babe!

    BEC: 87 (7/13/11)
    FAR: 86 (8/31/11)
    AUD: 99 (10/6/11)
    REG: 88 (11/30/11)
    Ethics: 100
    (Illinois)

    Used Becker for all four parts. Supplemented it with Wiley Test Bank for FAR and REG (HIGHLY recommended) and NINJA notes.

    I'm sorry to hear that letsfixthis. 🙁

    On the positive side, it doesn't seem like she would have made a good long-term partner anyway since she is unable to make a short-term sacrifice for something very important to you.

    Thanks T-rex. There were other issues too, but this certainly brought out the worst in her so long-term I probably dodged a bullet. The only hard part is trying to not get too down about it, because with FAR coming up, there's just no time to feel sorry for myself. I saw a few earlier threads in here that mentioned it's probably best to steer clear of dating and relationships if you are single and in the thick of taking these exams, and I'd have to agree. I'd like to go out and try to meet other people to date, but FAR (8/31) and AUD (10/1) pretty much make that impossible right now. At least I know Peter Olinto and Tim Gearty will never get “bored” of me :/

    @letsfixthis,

    I know it's hard not getting too down about a breakup. I had a similar experience while studying for REG, and almost postponed REG because of it. I'm glad I didn't though. What got me through was telling myself that a year from now the break up won't matter, but having my CPA license will. Also, I allowed myself a little bit of room to be sad about it, but not too much. Just keep on plugging through FAR and try to push thoughts of the ex out of your head. It's hard, but you can do it.

    The right gal will stand by your side.

    As for dating, I'm don't think it's ideal to start a relationship while studying for the exam. Not only is your free time very limited, but you risk having it go south and making it hard for you to study.

    Well, hang in there. I wish you the best on FAR. You've only got about two weeks to go, so make them count. You can do this!

    @letsfixthis — T-rex pretty much hit the nail on the head…if she can't support you while you study for the most important certification in your career, she's not worth giving the time of day to. One day, you'll run into her again, and you'll be a CFO at a Fortune 500 company with the Yaeger girl on your arm and your ex will be slapping her forehead going, “DOH!”. So do your best to put her out of your head and demolish this exam!

    My ex broke up with me while I was studying. It was also something that wasn't a big surprise and it was one of the hardest things I had to go through, but now I honestly have to thank him. He was a huge distraction and wasn't the right kind of support system I needed. He would tell me how he felt bad that I was failing, but would never push me to study. I failed 4 exams while we were together. Since then I've buckled down and focused and I've passed two. I LOVE studying and not having to worry about texting or calling or hanging out with someone.

    This is an incredibly difficult experience and those that haven't gone through it don't understand the sacrifice. This girl did you a favor, especially if she wasn't being supportive. Take the time you need to grieve and then pick yourself up and accept the fact the your future is too bright.

    @T-rex and @BaseballCPA, thanks for the positive thoughts. I've managed to put it out of my mind (somewhat) for the time being and I was able to do it by leaving town for a bit while I try to focus these last two weeks. A timely visit to the parents can work wonders when it comes to clearing your head. You guys are both right, anyone who actually cared about someone other than themselves wouldn't have made my life hell the way she did the last month or so. She nearly ruined my BEC exam too (7/13) by starting a huge fight 4 days before it, which should've ended things in the first place.

    @GottaGetThruThis, I'm glad you were able to turn things around with passing the exams when your relationship ended. I do have to admit, it's nice to not have to worry about talking to or dealing with someone else when trying to buckle down with studying. I used to feel like venting to her about studying was helpful, but she never really understood this entire process anyway so I doubt she felt any real empathy towards me 😛

    @palal9923, believe me I know exactly how you feel, to the letter. In my case, I'm pretty sure the long hours I spent studying were also the “straw that broke the camel's back” among several other issues, and may also have been a convenient excuse. I'm also almost positive her best friend was the one that pushed her to end it, possibly because he was jealous (word of advice to any other single guys on here – be very wary of women who have “life-long” best friends who are single guys, because they'll likely work behind the scenes to do everything possible to get you out of the picture). Also, “hide” your ex on facebook, and if that doesn't do the trick, just drop her. Why put yourself through that kind of torture?

    Hang in there for another couple of weeks, and come 8/31, go out on a bender and start talking to some ladies again 🙂

    It's sounds like you're doing a bit better. That's good to hear! Less that two weeks to go until FAR!!! I'm rooting for you!

    @palal9923, you can do what I did and delete your Facebook altogether! Although that may be a bit extreme, @letsfixthis has a suggestion worth considering. Otherwise, consider the wonderful blocking feature. FB has too many make-or-break distractors for such a defining period in your life (in my opinion).

    I can't imagine having a relationship with anyone outside of my lecture dudes. Yes this is temporary, but vital to our success as financial experts. The last thing I want to have happen to any of us busting our butts for this exam is being turned down for an amazing position/promotion simply because we lack the certification(s) necessary regardless of our actual knowledge, ethic, or experience.

    @AlmondCoins, I deleted my facebook too. I didn't realize what a huge distraction it was until it was gone. I don't know about you, but I don't even miss it anymore.

    I read an article about checking your facebook/twitter/email/text messages and cell phone every 5 minutes. They mentioned putting it in airplane mode during your study times, and turning it back to normal when you are “free”
