cookie168MemberMy ex broke up with me while I was at the library studying for FAR….we had so many fights over “me not spending enough time with him”, how he “did not feel loved”….whah whah whah…the stress was so bad that I would be scared to miss a call ….and to top it off, just a few days before my exam, my cell ran out of batteries while I was cramming at Starbucks, and lo and behold, he called when my phone was off. I called him back and he accused me of cheating on him when I was stressing over bond amortization!!
I am so over that shit; I am glad the shit is out of my life!

SeattleAccountantMember@cookie168, sorry to hear this. It reminds me of the situation one of my sisters is going thru/being involved in and in her case, it is already somewhat too late as she did get married to the jerk.
People like that don't need to be around you! In fact, they don't need to be around anyone be it a CPA candidate, medical school/law school student or anyone with dreams and aspirations. The constantly whining, attention seeking, Tom Leykis 101 jerks, moma's crybabies, insecure and arrogant persons of either gender (although Tom Leykis folks are males) are guaranteed to ruin other's person life. If person makes your life impossible now, imagine what will be the scenario once you guys have kids, somebody falls ill or gets broke, etc. These are not worthy to be spending your time with as they are virtually incurable. As a future CPA, you will …need to upgrade anyway (per Peter Olinto Becker's review :).
So, wipe your visible and invisible tears and move on. Take on the exam, become a CPA, and enjoy life. Hope that helps, smile and work on your exam prep!
Disclaimer: I'm not single, just trying to encourage OP.

cookie168Member@seattleaccountant– thank you for the words of encouragement. I hope your sister will learn to be strong to stand up for herself, whatever her situation may be.
I did have a tough breakup, and I was sad because i felt like i failed as a gf. It still hurts to think about it but I am thankful the chaos is behind me now.
My advice to couples with one juggling the CPA prep is lots of communication and loving patience. Offer to bring them something to eat, but understand that not giving them a hard time and compassion during stressful times is the best gift one can provide. Once the exam is over, life will have much to offer, but the journey to get there takes patience and benefit of the doubt (not acting overly insecure and childish when the attention is given to the books).

Ntw6817ParticipantWhen I first saw the title to this thread, I thought A71 was starting a dating service for those too busy with the CPA. Anyways, I was reminded of this: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10151415515101637&set=a.10150589261181637.381300.182607376636&type=1&theater

Ntw6817ParticipantA close friend of mine's fiance left her because he was feeling neglected because she was always at work during tax season. She was pretty broken up about it and considered leaving her job over it but she stuck with it and now she's found someone else who is more supportive of her and less clingy and is very happy.

foreseeableCPAParticipantSingle, Done Studying, and ready to Mingle! hahaha
My friends who have significant others tend to take forever to attempt to take an exam. One of my friends spent 4k on Becker material and got caught up with his fairly new gf that he stopped studying completely. I do respect those who can successfully study and make time for their significant other. Now that I have completed the CPA exam, maybe I can find a girl who is studying for the exams and I can give her pointers 🙂 I think im just dreaming.. hahah

AnonymousInactiveI wish I was single during the CPA exams… relationships take maintenance and although the BF is supportive, there will be times when he wants to surprise me for dinner or whatever… I'm stuck thinking… “ahhhh lawdy he's being so sweet, I should take this opportunity, but I need to study! I will kick myself if I fail by 3 points that I could have probably prevented had I skipped out on some things!”
Then there will be times when I just want to relax or do whatever I want to do, be it laundry or wash the car but I feel guilty that I should be spending my free time with him or that he will be hurt that I would rather do some of my own maintenance!

AnonymousInactiveI should’ve known it wasn’t going to work out between my ex and me. After all, I’m an Aries and she’s a bitch.
Keep it simple folks, you know misery loves company, just study buddy it up,…. Exams don't have to get in the way of a healthy sex life .. so with that Thank you Hashem for the CUNY Library system and all the wonderful and exciting adventures my social skills have allowed me to have while studying for the CPA exam..

AnonymousInactiveReviving this thread! Recently got dumped out of the blue like really out of the blue. He came over to hang out for three hours and as we hugged goodbye he said the famous words, “we need to talk”. Among the list of reasons he wrote down on a piece of paper in his pocket was me studying for the cpa exam. Just like many people on here, I am not subtle when my significant other would want to do something out of the blue and we snap and think about how we will make up the study hours. I was completely devastated by this and just laid in bed and cried. I will use this as a motivator and keep going because after all I with my CPA I can trade up and date a lawyer lol Definitely not going to get in any kind of serious relationship until this process is over!
