Should the "No Re-Takes" per Testing Window rule be changed?

    Just wondering what others think…

    I think that the rule that says that you can’t take the same section twice in the same testing window should be done away with. Now that scores are being released this often it makes sense that candidates that take a section in the first part of the window should have the option to take it again later in the window if they want to.

    I would have loved to do that so that I would have one more chance to try to pass Audit since now I only have one chance before I lose my Financial credit.

    I dont really understand the reason for that rule in its current form. Seems like it really handcuffs candidates that are on a time crunch.. (which is anybody that has passed at least one section)

    I would love to hear your opinions.

    thanks.

    I wonder if the questions are very similar (if not exact) during the entire testing window and allowing people to go more than once gives them an unfair advantage the second time?

    I dont think they are the same because the testlets are supposed to be adaptive.. so that would mean that they get harder or easier the better or worse you do… which would mean (I think) that different questions would be used…

    The questions may not be the same but the SIMS may be very similar so that may cause an unfair advantage for those that retake in same window. The sims may not all be the same for everyone but it may have an easy set of sims, a medium set of sims, and a difficult set of sims that one would get based on MCQs.

    I'm sure it has to do the similarity of the tests within a window. The sims are not based on MCQ performance, though.

    So because the score release is faster, you should have double the opportunities to pass that candidates have had over the last several years? We need to make this exam and testing process harder, not easier. You want the certification to have value. I know it is a tough process, but it is very doable. You have people passing all four in the same window. The 18-month window is extremely generous, especially since you are allowed to take a section every quarter.

    I agree with Mini. The 18-month window is bad@ss! We do want it to have value…but the test is rather easy to pass if you study appropriately. I believe there would be even less people passing if the exam was setup like the Chartered Accountants exam.

    @nextstopCPA

    It's easy only when you pass.

    There are plenty of people struggling and eventually giving up. Not to mention those who haven't even dared to try.

    The concept of testing windows should be eliminated entirely. It's a computerized exam – why can't you take it in March, June, or September? What the hell is the AICPA doing that they can't release scores on a rolling basis – printing them out and hand scoring them?
