Should I………or Shouldn't I………….

    Hello All,

I have been a member of this site (which I LOVE) for a few months now and I have been reading all the forums to gain as much knowledge as possible about the CPA. I am schedule to take FAR at the end of August (sure wish I would have planned this better) and this will be my first exam. With that said I AM EXAUSTED!!!!! I tell my husband almost everyday how much I HATE THIS and I wish it was OVER! As you can see from my signature I will not take the final test until January. I really really want to be done and am thinking about moving BEC to sometime before the 19th of November ( do not want to study during thanksgiving) Is this even possible? I work full time/masters/two kids. My job is pretty laid back and I spend most of my time on here or doing multiple choice questions. My master’s program is online and I literally spend like one weekend doing all the homework required for the class( working ahead) so that I will have more time to devote to studying for the CPA. If I combine a section I would like to combine AUD & BEC. What are your thoughts?

Any sugesstions on how can do this and with success?

    Suggestions of test dates etc

Thanks in advance for all your comments!

    FAR 76
    REG 76(2x)
    BEC FAILED (2x)
    AUD FAILED (2x)

I am a newbie, so take my advice with a grain of salt, BUT

    1. I would make this decision after you take your first section. By then, you should have a good feel for how much time it takes for you to feel comfortable with the material.

    2. If you were to move it, I don't think it would be doable to do it before Thanksgiving; however, you might be able to move AUD up to the first week of Nov and take BEC the last week of Nov

PS That's awesome that your job supports your CPA endeavor and allows for studying on the clock!

i would just be patient with these exams, we all want to be done asap but it's not worth risking a failing grade. if you can pull it off then combine exams but WARNING!!! DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE BEC!!! it is a lot more work then it looks

    good luck!

If you can study as much as you say in your post on a consistent basis, you can do it. IMO, BEC and AUD require the least preparation time. However, this isn't to say that they are easy–none of the exams are.

    FAR 4/1/11 - 89
    AUD 4/15/11 - 85
    REG 4/29/11 - 80
    BEC 5/13/11 - 85

thank you all. So how much time is needed for AUD and BEC each. what should my plan of attack be? I am learning that the more time I have the more freaked out I get. My brother who passed all parts in 2010 took two to three weeks to study each section and passed (he did have to retake FAR and REG). I am still torn but I STUDY alot right now ( according to my family) which is needed for FAR, but AUD and BEC is more about concepts than formulas right when compared to FAR and REG. I will be self studying and using becker and wiley.

    FAR 76
    REG 76(2x)
    BEC FAILED (2x)
    AUD FAILED (2x)

BEC has more equations than FAR and REG combined. it usually takes me 1 1/2 hrs to answer 100 MCQ for AUD. it takes me about double that for BEC

    REG-65,71,74,73,70,74,79
    BEC-60's,60's,69,71,76*,78
    FAR-67,66,65,79
    AUD-54,60's,65,83*,69,80

Focus on FAR until you take FAR.

while BEC & AUD might be considered the easier ones i wouldnt chance studying for two exams at the same time to fail two exams at the same time….. OP we have a lot in common as it relates to work being easy going (govt job) and being able to study…. i am doing my masters in school, working Ft and studying all the time for the CPA.. Look at my signature, my last exam is next may. it is a marathon not a sprint….

@NoLifeCPa, does BEC really have more equations than FAr & REG combined? the reasoni ask is because i do agree BEC has alot of formulas but at the same time i think its manageable. Now if you are correct I am looking fwd to FAR more now
