Should I restructure exams?

The exam order and dates listed in my signature was set up when I planned on not working. I now have a job and they want me to start after FAR. I can be flexible with hours so 20-25 is what I’m thinking.

Now this is my concern. I’m not strong in tax. I don’t think taking on REG while starting a new job will be good. I also have to move by the end of this month.. I was thinking about switching it with BEC and tweaking the last two exam dates to provide enough time for REG.

Is there any benefit to taking REG as I originally planned? (Closer to FAR or any other reason..)

Also, do you guys think me slamming the rest of the 3 sections while working those amount of hours is doable? I’m thinking yes but some of you would know better based off personal experience or what you’ve seen other A71 members do..

Do you need to pass in that time frame? That is pretty tight for someone who is NOT working.

    FAR: 63, 55, 62
    REG: 65, 77*
    AUD: Fail, 64, 71
    BEC: 72, 74, 81

Not really but it would be ideal. The only thing is my NTS runs out December. It wouldn't be a huge deal to get another NTS but it's just extra cost at that point…

and how much is that per exam?

$190 for new NTS and roughly $190 for each test. I don't think my job would mind if I tell them I have to work less than 20hrs. I got the sense that they care more about me having my CPA than them trying to fill hours. They have a little under 2 years to fully train me in so there is time for them..

So – I guess it depends if you want to consider a sunk cost. Do you work FT?

How well are you at test-taking? Maybe take a loss at 1 or 2 exams and pay again? the you can focus on FAR/REG or FAR/AUD?

After looking at your sig – it is an aggressive schedule but doable. Can you decide after you take REG?

    FAR: 63, 55, 62
    REG: 65, 77*
    AUD: Fail, 64, 71
    BEC: 72, 74, 81

Not full-time. I told them about 20 hours week. I did an excel layout and it would be 4 hours a day with 7 hour weekends, then the two weeks prior to test would be 7 hour days. It totaled over 200 hours of study for REG. I could do half days (4hr) at work and study the other 4 at home.

I'm really good at MC Q's and only average with problems. After reading all the horror stories about the SIMS, i'm definitely wide-eyed… haha

I think you can do it then with working 20 hours a week – you sound like a good test taker/smart 🙂

I think give REG a chance and take FAR at the end of August – it will give you a good idea what to expect

I think others may agree or have better suggestions

You mean give REG a chance on Aug 31? I'm already committed to far and am in the review phase. I'm nailing all MCq's for a chapter/day. So leave BEC for the end?

@12tang It seems that you are very confident that you will pass. Many of us had intentions of passing on the first try. some mission accomplished and others (like me) still trying. But be prepared for retakes just in case. With this schedule, I must say it cuts out time for procrastination so you will to be really studying with your goals up front. You have your materials and plan laid out so go pass this thing.

    It begins with a 75
Been here too long as a cheerleader....ready to pass

Sorry! I meant FAR – take it on the 20th!! sounds like you are doing good – what are scoring?

@tcincy – dead on – he/she can do it but you are right – it will take all free time (after/before work) to follow that schedule

    FAR: 63, 55, 62
    REG: 65, 77*
    AUD: Fail, 64, 71
    BEC: 72, 74, 81

I'm pretty committed to these tests. It was hard at first and I had some hiccups early on but I should have close to 200 hours with FAR. I have no life right now and I'm ok with it. Friends are wondering where I am…haha!

My first time through the FAR material I was only answering about 30% of the MC. For this review, I'm doing 100% and in my bad areas, I start out kind of bad but then it all comes together and I have been finishing the MC with about 65-75% correct.

It does scare me a little though because my score is only picking up since the solutions and reasoning are displayed. Not sure if that's something to be afraid of or not but I do feel like things are coming together. I just hope I don't forget it again on test day! I plan on using the last couple of days to go back to the bad areas to ensure I have it down.

Thanks Golf, I just hope that I can apply it to the actual. I'll stay the course and we'll see what happens. Thanks for the advice golfball and tncincy.
