Should I postpone? Please advise

My exam is scheduled for Nov 14 and I am trying to decide whether or not to postpone until Nov 30. What would you do?

I had major surgery on Oct 16 and I feel amazing. I am actually shocked at how great I feel after two years of feeling like an old mop. I have been on pain pills which made it hard to study but I am done with those now. I went down to Georgia 8 days after surgery to see my father who is probably going to heaven any day now. So no studying while I was in Georgia.

Today, is the first true study day I’ve had in weeks. I am currently on medical leave until Nov 18 (longer if needed – it’s up to me…I have med leave approved through 12/2 but I need to go back to work at least by Nov 25) so I can study all day/night until I go back to work. Never had that luxury before.

I can’t decide what to do. Should I stick with Nov 14 and give it all I have and hope that I don’t have to say goodbye to Dad before then?? Should I move it to Nov 30? Is there any truth to the rumor that taking an exam later in the testing window means harder exams and less chance of passing? I will have to drive 5 hours to a testing center for a Nov 30 exam…not the end of the world since I can drive down Friday as it is part of the Thanksgiving holiday.

I have to pass FAR no later than Nov 30 (thank you ILBOE for the extension) or I lose AUD so this is a big decision. My last FAR score in August was a 73 (still PO’d about that but we soldier on…)

    Please help.

    Baxter

I would move it to maximize your study time so you have the best chance of not having to take audit again.

I spoke to an ancient wise man who sent me on a mushroom induced journey through an ancient forest to find the key to passing the CPA exam. A talking spider monkey told me to throw the last of my drinking water in the dirt to find what I was looking for. So I followed his instructions and the following message appeared in the soil:

"Do 5000 multiple choice questions for each section"

    Thanks Study Monk!

I have been conflicted about this decision for over a week but I finally know what to do after talking with friends and family. I've postponed the exam til Nov 30 and will make the almost 5 hour drive to Lexington, Ky to KILL FAR! It will be an easy drive since I have that Friday off for Thanksgiving and can get there early enough for a final review, a nice dinner and a good nights sleep.

I'm sorry for the wasted space on the forum but sometimes the fog clears and you just know what to do! =)

I've never heard of this rumor. I took REG on 8/31 and yes the Sims were hard but I passed! I'm sure you'll do great!

I had a similar dilemma and decided to stick to my plan but I took 4 days off at work to study. I didn't have a surgery though. Just started a new job and been lazy 🙂 good luck!

    FAR: 81 (May 2013)
    BEC: 81 (July 2013)
    REG: 83 (August 2013)
    AUD: 82 (November 2013)
    California CPA since 1/30/14

Are you going to be taking it at the location on Richmond Rd? If so, here's a hint for you to find it, since I almost missed my first exam since I wasn't familiar with the area. If you follow your GPS, you'll turn into a strip-mall-type-area which will have several businesses – Panera Bread, David's Bridal (or somebody's bridal), and I can't remember any others off the top of my head. There will basically be 2 facing each other, perpendicular to the main road. At the back of these two strip malls, there's a hotel. To find Prometric, you have to go to the end of the strip malls and turn left right in front of the hotel, and then the Prometric center is tucked back in the corner. I drove through that strip mall several times before stumbling upon Prometric while looking for a place to turn! Also am not very familiar with Lexington or big cities, so maybe this is a “duh” to people who are used to them. 😉 Hmm that makes me think that you could stay at that hotel if you wanted to! It looked like it might be an expensive hotel. 😐 But I wasn't really paying that much attention to it. However, the convenience of being able to *walk* about 50 feet to your test might be kinda nice! If you were one who had issues before with super-strict Prometric people, that won't be as much of an issue at the Richmond Rd testing center. I mean they're not going to let you blatantly break the rules, but they're friendly and helpful and won't be needlessly inconvenient about things. Ahh looked up the name of the hotel – it's this one: https://plus.google.com/109704180580325285073/about?gl=us&hl=en Not a Super 8 price, but might be worth it for a last test. When you look at the picture, Prometric is right across the street from the pillar furthest left. And…if you're not at the Richmond Rd location, then all of this has been a complete waste 😛 but I'm pretty sure that Richmond Rd is the only Prometric in Lexington… I took all but one of my tests there – took one in Knoxville TN since it's the same distance from me but had a better time.

Glad that you have a date that you're comfortable with! 🙂 Going back to work on the 25th and then testing on the 30th might be nice to give your mind just enough of a break from CPA stuff to clear it out (I think that work can be good for that sometimes!) before taking your test-trip and nailing it!

Oh, and was happy to stumble across an update from you. 🙂 I haven't been around the forum much recently, so hadn't heard how you were post-surgery, or even if you'd ended up taking your exam pre-surgery or not. So, excited to see you feeling so much better! 🙂 Hopefully these weeks of dawn-till-dusk study will be the magic piece for you!

I've taken two exams at the end of the window, and passed them both! So I also have never heard of the rumor. I've also postponed 3 of my exams because of an uneasy feeling I had, and it turned out well for me! I'm not sure if I would have passed without those extra few days, but who knows!!

I'm so happy you're feeling great after the surgery! You're going to kill it 🙂

Lilla: Wow! Yes, I am scheduled at the Richmond Road Prometric center. Thank you so much for the “local” info on Lexington, KY. I had planned to get there earlier on Friday to do a ‘drive by' but this helps SO much. I have already booked two nights at that hotel and while it is quite pricey…I thought that since I've spent so much money on exams over the years a fancy hotel for my LAST go around is A-OK. I really appreciate that you took the time to type all this out and be so incredibly helpful!

I am actually thinking about going back to work part-time next week but I am undecided. The lazy me says no but the “mom” in me that knows Christmas is coming says yes. I am actually starting a new job on campus when I return so I'm a little anxious to get set up and meet my new co-workers. I won't go full time until at least Nov 18 (or 25 – depending on how Dad is doing) but I think getting up, having a schedule and getting my brain moving will help me be more productive in studying.

THANK YOU so much again for being so thoughtful and helpful!!! =)

Thanks Neika! I took one on the last day of a test window and failed by a couple of points so I guess I am “gun-shy”. I am going to know this material so well that they won't be able to fail me! I'm ready to be done with this beastly process!
