ShwetaMemberHi,
i failed Audit and FAR twice with very low scores, so I am planning to do MS in Accounting, would it help me to pass CPA after doing MS in accounting? Or should i continue with CPA?
I am really confused, i studied like crazy, I used Becker as well WTB and Wiley book.

JournhiMemberI find the materials for FAR and AUD more comprehensible than BEC and REG (which i'm still working on passing). I find the Roger review course very good for preping me with my FAR and AUD. Roger is very good at explaining the concept and he has tons of nemonics to help you memorize things. His lectures are quite entertaining also. No, i'm not trying to promote the Roger review course, but I did only use Roger and has no experience with other review course. It's only a mere suggestion. I passed FAR on the 2nd try and AUD on the 1st attempt.
And definitely study the Ninja way! Understand the concept and look up every little questions that you have.

tough_kittyMember@Journhi – you sound like me! I love Roger's lectures – especially those for FAR and AUD….and I also feel like I am a sales person for his review….should get paid commission! 🙂 But seriously, they are the best for FAR and AUD.

VAFutureCPAMember@Shweta – I wanted to jump in and say something about getting your MS in accounting instead of the CPA. If you ask me, I think that is your way of coping with the fact that you have did not pass this time. I don't mean that in a disrespectful way. It's just interesting that almost 7 years ago I took the same two parts (FAR and AUD) and failed miserably. What did I do? I got my MBA for the same reasons: prepare me for the CPA. I do not regret getting my MBA because many things happened while I was studying for my MBA that took me to where I am at now. Result? I am not a CPA and the MBA did not help at all!!
My advise to you is to keep on studying for the CPA, make the necessary adjustments and commit to it 200%. I am doing that right now and it's paying off so far.
Good luck and hope the decision you make is the best one for you!

tough_kittyMember@VAFutureCPA – Roger for REG? It's really hard to say… depends on what you are using now and how much you already know about taxation. I honestly wasn't too impressed with REG lectures, because most of business law topics are pretty much self-explanatory. But you need to spend more time on taxation topics. I took Fed & State taxation class for Individuals so that part was easy for me. I guess Roger does a good job explaining all the topics, including corp tax and estate tax, but you still need to spend some more time linking all the info together – passive/active income, gains/losses, etc.
Honestly, I passed the exam and was shocked I got an 83 because the SIMS were really hard and half of them was really comprehensive – nothing ANY course will teach you, so I'd suggest looking at actual tax returns and maybe study some major topics in the Internal Revenue Code.
Also, find the AICPA released questions – the hard ones will give you an idea how much you still need to study. They mix several concepts together so you have to look out for all the details involved in the question! Good luck!

AnonymousInactiveI have a masters in tax and I still thought the SIMS on REG were INSANE. Ughhh… just thinking about them, they're not even fair and nothing can prepare you for them, you just have to do your best.
Yea I just wanted to say how crazy the SIMS were for REG. FAR SIMS were tough but I didn't think they were near as bad as REG.

JournhiMember@tough-kitty LOL I do find myself laughing while watching Roger. He should pay us to promote…
@VAfutureCPA I 100% agree with tough-kitty's reply. REG is more so so. I just took my REG in Aug. and failed with a 68 so im currently restudying. The business law is explained well by Roger, but I have no Tax background so I am struggling with individual tax (which is not as extensively explained). You will need to find supplementary for tax. I am going over the individual tax with Yeager (or you can just read the Wiley module 35) I do find some chunks of info more elaborately explained in there. I cant tell you what will work until i pass it, hopefully in Oct.
And I have never use the cram so I don't know how it is.
