    Hi,

i failed Audit and FAR twice with very low scores, so I am planning to do MS in Accounting, would it help me to pass CPA after doing MS in accounting? Or should i continue with CPA?

I am really confused, i studied like crazy, I used Becker as well WTB and Wiley book.

    Thanks in advance!

I have a 2.2 from the UK which means i have a Second pass second class. In the UK that is considered a decent pass. I missed a 2.1 by 2% 🙁 which is considered to be a better pass than a 2.2.

When I converted to USA its a 3.0 and so if I told Employers its a 3.0 equivalent they will look at me like I didn't work for my degree. Which is not true. I did interview with a number of large private companies and I finally got a job with a large company that has its headquarters in the UK 🙂

Yes I live in Santa Clara CA (Sicilian Valley). I am planning to do my MS with SFSU as they are rated better than CAL state. There is St Mary's College but they don't seem to be well known as SFSU or CAL State.

I can't afford UC Berkeley or Stanford. Way…. too expensive. Plus their programs are full time which means I would have to quit my job in order to do it with them. Can't afford to quit my job.

    FAR 05/27/14; 786/110 - Done !

Wow. That's really weird about your GPA because most CPA firms require at least 3.0 GPA and it's good enough for them!

Congrats on getting the job! And good luck with the MS program! I'll have to look it up later – just out of curiosity 🙂

    FAR: 81 (May 2013)
    BEC: 81 (July 2013)
    REG: 83 (August 2013)
    AUD: 82 (November 2013)
    California CPA since 1/30/14

Thank you 🙂 I have been working with them now for 3 yrs. This was back in 2010. I was required to have a GPA of 3.6 to be even considered for a interview.

Good Luck on your exams. Are you also aiming to get your exams done by Nov 2013 to apply under pathway one for the CA License or have you got your 150 semester hours requirement.

Oh, 2010 – recession and all that….you are lucky you were able to find a job, especially in Bay Area! 🙂

And thank you – I have only AUD left – scheduled for November 10th, but I may reschedule to take it sooner.

I have plenty of units – MA degree from another country (in linguistics), MS in Accy and MBA General. Now I need to figure out what to do in terms of my career….working for the state is getting old….. 😉

A Macc is worthless unless it gets you to 150. No value to it in the real world, at all and I don't think it will help you all that much with the CPA exam.

Truth is you need to study harder, that's all you need to do.

The main reasons people in my class did the MAcc program were either to get to 150 hours or put off work for another year but still wanted to do something. It isn't unhelpful, but isn't necessary. For me, it was just an extension of undergrad. I could have taken 3 more Audit classes (which I did not but I'm sure would have helped on the CPA) and other classes that had areas on the CPA (government/non profit, mergers, etc.) I'd say if you have the 150 hours and can get a job after undergrad it isn't necessary, you can for sure pass the CPA without it.

Yep, If my Uk Degree gave me 140 Semester hours I would never consider a Ms in Accounting. Since I only got 100 Semester hours and I need 50 more, the MS in Accounting is a great fit for me 🙂 I am sure there are other that are in a similar situation to me.

I find the materials for FAR and AUD more comprehensible than BEC and REG (which i'm still working on passing). I find the Roger review course very good for preping me with my FAR and AUD. Roger is very good at explaining the concept and he has tons of nemonics to help you memorize things. His lectures are quite entertaining also. No, i'm not trying to promote the Roger review course, but I did only use Roger and has no experience with other review course. It's only a mere suggestion. I passed FAR on the 2nd try and AUD on the 1st attempt.

And definitely study the Ninja way! Understand the concept and look up every little questions that you have.

    FAR: 62;79
    AUD: 76
    REG:67; 77
    BEC: 68;66; 12/05/13
