Scratch paper – erasable laminate ?

So, I’ve heard that we don’t get paper and pencil in the exam, and it has changed to erasable marker and laminate paper, is that correct?

I’d like to study with the same materials that I will get in the exam, so can anyone tell me what to expect, and what to buy if I want to duplicate these materials at home?

I don’t believe this would count as sharing confidential information – I just want to know what the pen/marker is like and the paper/laminate too.

    Is the pen like this?

    https://www.officemax.com/office-supplies/pens-pencils-markers/markers/dry-wet-erase-markers/product-prod3801384

Or is it more fine point?

Working with a fat marker sounds atrocious!!!!

Any info that someone can provide is much appreciated!!

It is somewhat similar to that type of point. It might even be skinnier like a normal pen. It is not fat at all. I am not sure if this is where you heard about the change, but here is the link to NASBA's announcement just in case:

    https://nasba.org/exams/news/noteboards-used-for-cpa-exam/

Like Nasba says the laminated sheets are not dry erase and I did find that they did not smudge. They also had grid lines on them almost like a piece of graph paper just bigger squares if that makes sense. I also do not think they are erasable. I didn't have to erase anything, but I have heard you cannot erase and if you need more sheets to ask your prometric person.

Mine were fine point pen's and they did give me two, just in case one went dry.

The dry erase boards wouldn't smudge BUT, if you run out of room you can use your sweaty palm sweat to rub off some of the writing. 🙂

My exam room is always hot.

    OK. Thanks.

So it's not dry erase, and it's a fine point.

Maybe it's more like this pen??

Kinda like a felt tip pen?

I can work with that. I'll buy similar supplies and work with them at home.

Tux – I would suggest the Fine Point Sharpy in black. The grid lines are like graphing paper the is either 1/4 or 1/3 inch boxes. They are not dry erase, are two sided, and you can trade them in when needed.

@tux, I wouldnt worry so much about it. When the change came about last November, I think a few of us freaked out about the change from paper to laminate and pencil to marker. I actually really like the pen and laminate paper. It doesnt even smear and you can see what you are writing whereas in the past, I would get all sorts of colored paper and the pencil provided made it hard to see. Good Luck with your exam!!
