I was doing a bit of research on how to retain information better & a few things i found were:
That its best to study before going to bed, unless you’re physically or mentally overtired. freshly learned material is better remembered after a period of sleep than after an equal period of daytime activity because retroactive interference takes place. However, for some people this may not work. btw retroactive interference is basically forgetting caused by later learning
Also learned that there should be rest periods at intervals to allow the brain to lie fallow. Continuous undifferentiated activities apparently fight for a place in the memory; some things are pushed out and forgotten. Ive personally noticed that its ineffective to jump right into a new topic right after completing a completely different one
& that the best time to review is right after studying something, to create conflicts, do problems & remember why made the mistake. its good to see the material you learned in another context, since the problems we see on the test & real life aren’t structured the way they are in the textbook
Those were my biggest takeaways, & yes i copied nd pasted a bit from the internet.
