I started my trek to becoming a CPA over two years ago. The reason I did it was to add credibility to my resume since I have been out of the workforce for a while in order to raise my two young kids. When I first started this journey I attempted to research on what was the best CPA study guide for me. After several weeks of researching, I found that every where I looked people raved about Yaeger CPA Review .So I gave it a shot. They had several things which I was looking for 1. It was within my budget, 2. They had a person that I could talk to if I had questions, and 3) I could study at my own pace.
I was able to pass FAR, AUD, and BEC on the first try. I have to say that Cindy was AMAZING! She actually taught the material. If you did what she told you to do and did all of the assigned mc, FAR and BEC were not that difficult. She had amazing study guides and explained everything in great detail. Mind you, you had to study! I put in about 30-35 hours a week in studying. I am not the most efficient studier but I kept at it.
I was able to pass all three sections within 9 months.
The Auditing exam I must admit I was not a huge fan. While the instructor was very knowledgable, he was not the best instructor and he told me study everything in the Whiley book.
When it came to REG, I failed it three times. As a result, due to timing, I also lost the remaining 3 parts that I had passed because I did not pass within the required time frame. For some reason, the information did not click. The instructor and study material were decent.
I did use the Yaeger hotline quite a few times. When I actually did get through to the instructors they were always very helpful and helped you until you understood the material. I do understand that it is a business so after you use all of your minutes, you will need to pay to get more time. My only critique was that before you get to the actual instructor, you had to send an email to Yaeger CPA and someone would screen the questions, which is understandable. However, I would find the response at times would be abrasive, rude and at times insulting. If this person thought that it was a reasonable question it would then get passed on to the correct instructor.
Now I am in the process of starting this trek again. I again started researching about different CPA review courses. While I do agree with many of the bloggers that studying alone will help you pass. I do believe that you must have the right study guide. Each person’s needs are different. However, for me, going forward, I am going to probably use part of the Yaeger study material for two parts of the exam and will look for another study guide for the remaining two.
I do hope you found this review helpful. I know for me, I had a hard time finding a good critque of study material, if any.
