kb24ParticipantThere are a lucky few who didn't think they were unreasonable, but I think most of us suffered some serious pain from the REG SIMS. I just count my blessings that I did better on the MCQ than I thought so I never have to see that test again.

yankeeaccountantParticipantcount me in. Out of 7 sims, I felt ok on 3. I had one written in Swahili, didn't know what the heck they were asking me to do. I am not feeling great about having 3 out of 7 being ok, not sure that could be passing. š
Probably will start studying REG again on Tuesday–but don't tell my family–they think it is over!!!!
It will be a tough wait. I am hoping that we both will be surprised with good news.

AnonymousInactiveI agree. I took REG yesterday and the sims were insane. I studied 6 weeks for the exam and i honestly feel I wouldn't have been prepared for those sims even if I studied an additional 6 weeks. I'm really frustrated with the simulations, because I feel I usually do alright on the MCQ. Now I'm just trying to figure out a way to be better prepared for these sims. Becker has the simplest, straight to the point simulations. Meanwhile, my exam had all computational simulations involving topics completely out of left field. Any suggestions??? Thanks!

Why 7 simulations for REG? Did i miss one? Or did you take the right exam?

sunny810MemberOf the 6 simulations, I was only prepared for 1 of them (not including the research question). I studied for 2 months and made sure to hit all the topics covered, but the simulations i had were so painstakingly detailed that I ended up guessing on a lot of them. I'm confident that I didn't pass, so going to continue studying until the scores are released. =/

mvonsteiMemberI spoke with a friend who also just took REG, and the SIMS that re got, were cake compared to mine. I guess sometimes its just about dodging a bullet.
I know i did well on the multiple choice, I only marked 3-4 questions per testlet, and with 12 pretest questions, I feel confident I scored well there. However, with simulations being 40% of the exam, its just not enough to walk away feeling like one can compensate for the other. Who knows. Maybe if 80% of candidates with question XYZ got it wrong, it will be weighted differently. Even if one of the ones that I flunked was pre-test, i'm not confident at all it will make up for it.
I am going to keep studying, and for those of you who asked, “How are you going to better prepare yourself?”. Well, I'm definitely going to make sure I understand the SIMS i just took by studying those topics (by googling them if I have to). Other than, I dunno.

ExhaustedCPAMemberIt's the luck of the draw. All mine were very basic topics covered in the study material. The CPA exam gods took pity on me š

Far 5/27/11 - 83
Bec 7/1/11 - 82
Reg 8/13/11 - 86! It's over!!!!September 2, 2011 at 3:22 pm #294186
MAcc Grad_NDSUMemberTook it 8/31, and every one of my SIMS was very doable…covered in one way or another in my study material. Maybe I got a good draw. I thought they were comparable to comprehensive tax questions I had to do back in college in Tax I and Tax II, so I am somewhat used to rediculous tax questions. Compared to those I even thought my sims were basic.
Of course that doesn't take away from the fact I bombed them…didn't really have a great last week to studying, my motivation fell apart.
When I restudy (80% likely I'm retaking it), I'm going to hit all the SIMS in the Wiley text hard. Understanding those will make a huge difference in my score. That, and I'm going to review all the tax forms a good bit more. I'm really not too worried about it next time around, I know were my weaknesses are and how to go about it.
I'll probably be coming back here after the next time I sit saying “wtf?!” We'll see, but they weren't the big scary monster I was led to beleive would be hiding in testlet 4…not that they were easy, but they were doable I thought.
