    Hello all,

I’m hoping that I can get some general feedback from the group.

Here’s my situation. I began sitting for the exam in the second window of 2011. I passed AUD and BEC on the first try and FAR on the second. I made the mistake of saving my weak spot for last in REG. In order, here are my REG scores: 44, 64, 72, 70, 56, 67. As you can probably guess with the most recent 67 my AUD score has now expired. Also, my BEC is due to expire at the end of January. I guess I have reached a bit of a crossroads as I am losing motivation with my old test scores expiring. I have tried Becker Self Study, Gliem, and a classroom type setting for REG and there seems to be no correlation between study method and my score.

I hate to give up at this point as I was 3 points away from being a CPA with my 72. But now that my old tests are expiring and I need to refresh my review materials I’m looking at a considerable amount of money to be spent to keep trying. To top it all off I work in an IT audit type role at my firm so the CPA is a nice to have but not a requirement.

Has anyone been in a similar situation where one test is holding them up? Does anyone have any general advice on approach? I’d really appreciate any feedback people have.

    Thanks

    AUD - 76 (lost credit), 71, 82!
    BEC - 84 (lost credit), 80
    FAR - 67, 76
    REG - 44, 64, 52, 72, 70, 54, 64, 67, 78!

    Do this:

#1 – If your Becker materials are recent … use it again.

If not, check out the demos for

    Created with Compare Ninja

#2 – Study 20-25 hours per week for 6 weeks.

    #3 – Pass.

Never give up!!! You are SO close. I just took REG for the second time yesterday. My first attempt was a 72 with Becker live classes. This time I utilized Becker Self Study, Ninja Notes/Audio/Flashcards and the Wiley testbank. I feel like I was way more prepared walking into this exam. Becker was a bit overwhelming for me, but the Ninja materials break down the most important basics, making it a little easier for me to retain. I think it makes it harder to absorb everything when the sheer volume is what it is. In conjunction with the Ninja materials, I did a massive amount of MC from both Becker and Wiley. This is where I learned and retained the details. During my exam yesterday, many of the questions I saw I was able to better process because of the importance Jeff placed on some of the basic details in the material. Obviously, my score will be the real testament, but regardless I feel the simplification helped me tremendously. And it helped me pass FAR and AUD the second time around.

    REG 72, 86 and DONE!!!
    BEC 80 🙂
    FAR 72, 78 🙂
    AUD 73, 76 🙂

    Snowbrick –

Sorry to hear about your sad story… I would not give up now, since you have so much invested in this exam.

One silver lining in all of this is, since you have passed some sections, next time around it wont be that difficult, give a proper 6 months committment and you should pass all.

Start with Regulation first, that way if you pass that first, you will gain tremendous confidence going into the rest of the 3 sections, and also you have passed the other sections before, so you will be fine.

One last thing, looks like you need to brush up and fine tune most of the regulation topics. I would not move to other topic in tax, till you master completely the Partnership, S-corp, C-corp, estate and trusts etc. Take one at a time, dont rush, just dont understand them , master them so well that if they ask you any questions you will be ready for it and dont forget simulations are made up of tax material……so the better prepared you are in tax, it will help you in MCQ's and simulations too…..

Let me know if you need any specific help regarding any material or coursework or whatever ….
