I am currently studying for REG, and am not where I would like to be in my studies. I have only finished reading 1/2 of my book, and have 680 questions to mull through. My plan was to take REG on 2/26/14, but I am now having doubts. I see two options in my future, and am seeking an opinion from the group. Just a little background, I passed REG about 2 years ago, and work in tax on a regular basis. I actually like doing taxes. Here are my options:

    1) Buckle down, stop reading the book, and work the MCQ’s. Taking notes on the 680 MCQ’s, and attempt to finish by 2/17. Rewrite my notes, and review until the exam on 2/26/14 @ 12:00. Similar to Jeff’s 20 day FAR experience.

    2) Reschedule, finish the material while working 60+ hours a week, and trying to spend a little time with my family(wife & 2 kids). Take the exam on 4/1/14. I believe my boss would actually let me take a weekday to take the exam. Downside, my test bank access ends on 4/22/14 for REG and FAR.

    Suggestions? Comments?

Skim the book and start on MCQs. Nail the sims hard–they should be a source of easy points since you work in tax if you prepare for them. Take the exam this month–if you fail it you are just out the retest fee and you can still sit for it for the next window. Pushing the test off will probably just allow you to put of studying. If you hit the books hard now, there will be less you have to do if you restudy in March.

You guys really need to read the book.

“Buckle down, stop reading the book, and work the MCQ's” is never a solution.

Read the WHOLE BOOK, understand all the concepts, then take the test a pass it on the first try. Instead of keep failing and keep re-testing… over and over…..

    You should def. reschedule

    Just my 2 cents….

    AUD - 90
    FAR - 83
    BEC - 81
    REG - 80
    ETHICS - 100

Top – I have always read the entire book front to back, and have read the entire book for REG once before. The last sections are all tax (Individual, Corprate, Partnership, and Other Tax Topics). I work tax all day and every day (1040, 1120, 1120S, 1065, etc.). Reading them would be a refresher on small rare topics, but reading most of what I already know. My weakness is the first half of the book dealing with law. BEC was just a difficult exam for me, and all but 1 failure was with a review program not fit for me.

You are looking at this all wrong.

My tax exam is on the 27th and tax is by no means my area of expertise (financial reporting). I'm only about half way through the Becker materials so I know I've got a lot of study time left in the next two weeks but I'll be damned if I'm not walking out with a 76+ and done with these exams.

Get through what you can, identify areas to come back to and repeat, repeat, repeat!!!

    Here is my schedule:

    2/12/2014 Wednesday Chapter 4 – Review – MC & SIMS

    2/13/2014 Thursday Chapter 4 – Review – MC & SIMS

Joel – are you full time study mode with no job? I do not have enough time in the day to work five 10 hour days, and complete a schedule like that. I'm lucky to get 2 hours in on weekdays.

I plan to graze over the tax chapters.

Full time job… in at 8am, out at 10pm after studying and kicking arse on the weekends well. I'm two weeks from completing this 2.5 year journey (including going back to school to get my fifth year), I'm ready to be done and am going to do whatever I need to in order to finish.
