Reg or Far?

Background: I work in public (and love it), and with tax season upon us I have a decision to make, either Reg or Far. My plan is to schedule the exam for end of May, study when I can throughout tax season, and then after April 17, I should havea good 5 or 6 weeks to hit the books hard, including a final review and going through everything that I might have forgotten from the prior months.

Originally I was going to study for Far, but now I’m thinking I should study for Reg instead, as that will coincide with tax season and probably makes more sense. Is that a good idea, or do you think that I’ll be too burnt out from tax season that studying tax-related stuff will be detrimental. I think it’s a good idea, but I could be wrong.

    BEC: Passed
    AUD: Passed
    REG: Passed
    FAR: Passed

Sounds like a good idea. I hope so anyways since I'm doing something similar. I'm in public accounting also and was going to study FAR next, but found out I would be going out on some audits for the next couple of months, so I decided to take AUD next.

Ideally, since I'll be auditing, some of the concepts will be easier to grasp since I'll be getting practical experience at the same time. And since I'll be studying auditing I hopefully won't ask quite as many stupid questions of my supervisors! That's the theory anyways.

This is really an opinion question. At first I was going to say to tackle FAR, since you just took AUD and there is some overlap. Then after reading you're going to be going through your tax season, REG sounds like a better idea. Why not? Either way you'll have to slay both of these mega beasts!

    AUD 81 (X4) Previous scores 59, 72, 72
    REG 80 (X3) Previous scores 59, 60
    FAR 75 (X2) Previous score 67
    BEC 79 (X2) Previous score 58

I took REG right after tax season and thought it was the best thing I did. It helped a lot where I had just stared at about every possible kind of tax return for 3 months straight. Good luck!

@Peanut it hurts having to let go of nearly $300 bucks doesn't it?! Ahhh the joys of being a CPA candidate…the funny thing is, I would pay much more than $300 if I could just pass AUD and get it over with
