What are the biggest reasons why people fail the CPA exam? I’m trying to figure this out so I can try to not fall in the same situation.

Not enough time to study? Not enough understanding of the material? Too hard?

For me…not putting in 100% effort.

Not putting in enough effort. The amount of effort needed varies between people and you need to recognize how much you need to put in.

Some people are just not cut out for it. Good bookkeepers, maybe, but not CPA's.

anyone can pass the CPA exams if they put in the time. And I mean ANYONE

A big reason why people fail is they don't properly read the question. So many times during my studying I've found myself putting the incorrect answer because I didn't read the question even though I knew how the solve it.

Sometimes you have to fail to find out the level of effort you need to succeed at it. Like pacific1 and ppierce said. And with each test is a different level of effort, depending on your strengths. Or maybe you will be lucky and have the right about of effort and preparation the first time around!

CA CPA - All because of the journey listed below

    BEC - 58('10), 74('12), 01/05/13 77 PASSED!!!
    AUD - 43('11), 66('12), 69('13), 74('13) 7/29/13 85 PASSED!!!!!

It's mostly effort but ya, I agree with deathorglory not everyone is cut out to be it. Everyone has an intellectual limit & capacity…if it really was so easy, and everyone can do it…there would be more CPAs than workers on welfare and minimum wage etc…

Intimidation….people that passed it sometimes make it seem as if it is the hardest thing in the world to do. That in mind people quickly get discourage when they fail once or a few times. Do not be afraid, the exam is not hard at all. Just couple of weeks or real studying and you should be fine. I know people who are CPAs and are clueless in accounting, I see it at work and I see it with the staff of the Public accounting firms out there and I mean no disrespect to anybody. Good luck to all and don’t be intimidated, because there is nothing to be afraid of.

I think a lot of it has to do with lack of preparation. If you prepare, and work hard, and practice and give all of your effort, I truly think you will eventually pass.

OK come on – not everyone is cut out to be a CPA and maybe just a bookkeeper? What about the people who score in the 90s, their first time, but they cannot prepare a simple tax return? Yet, they are fit to advise the public. And yes, this exists because they work in my tax department.

Sometimes the CPA exam comes down to the ability to just be able to take a damn test. Personally, I think REG is so ridiculous because it is not representative WHATSOEVER of what someone actually does in the tax field!

    REG - 80 (Becker only)
    BEC - 76 (Becker only)
    AUD - 71, 76 (Becker only)
FAR - 65, 74, 81! (Becker, Wiley Test Bank, Ninja notes & Audio)

Some people fail because 50% will always fail. The key is to study hard enough that you are far away from that curve….

Duh? The reason why people fail is because they give up. If you don't give up you can not fail

People fail mostly because they are not willing to be in the huge effort it takes.

Unless I die in the process I will pass. It has taken its toll on my wallet but mostly

On my spousal relationship and my kids. My advice from someone who has passed three parts is to take FAR first

Unfortuneatly I am learning this now. It is as brutally as they say. Be prepared to suffer

I'd say poor time management during the actual tests, and… Insert whatever you want from the following: lack of motivation, persistence, resilience etc. Sleep, so true – I also messed up with FAR, took it as my last exam and had no room for failure ('cause my first exam would have expire then).

    DONE!

Hey Death Glory, lets do that beer it sounds awesome. The real meaning and importance of passing and being a CPA to me lies not in the endurance of it, but passing and learning the meaning of the ethics involved,. When some a-hole client down the line wants me to mislead or be gray or bend the rules, I will be thinking hey screw you buddy, I killed myself getting this license and I am not jeapordizing it for anyone. It's corny, but the public relies on us, look at these theives at the banks. I dont see CPA after their name. It's a very important designation. it doesn't make you smarter, but it should at the very least make you ethical. This is what the designation is about. Wow I feel like crying, maybe it's the whole July 4th thing.
