I had a few questions about Yaeger CPA Review. I was wondering from those of you that have used Yaeger, how was the lecture formatted? To elaborate, how much time was devoted to reviewing/teaching the information and how much time to practice problems?

Also, how would you rate the handouts provided and if someone has used both Yaeger and Becker, which review had the best text explaining the information that needs to be known for the exam.

    Thanks

I'm not sure of the answer to some of your questions, but will say the handouts were a lifesaver for me for FAR. They basically take several pages of the Wiley book and put the info in charts which makes it easier to study and visualize during the exam. I have only taken FAR and have AUD on Monday, but both are probably 60/40 on lectures/questions. The Cram versions are probably about 90/10.

I would have to say the videos are teaching about 80% of the time and the questions the other 20%. It depends on the chapter though. I think Cindy is amazing! Anytime Phil Yaeger gets on to do a video, I immediately just skip it and start reading the book. He is so horrible. He practically just reads 2 pages for 5 minutes, reads the homework problem, reads the homework solution, then continues. I'm not paying him to just read. I'm paying him to teach me and he does not do a good job at it. Anyway, enough about that. I found a version of Becker 2011 for FAR and downloaded it so I am actually using both. It is a heck of a lot less content and they explain it a lot better than Wiley. As far as the Yaeger handouts, some have been helpful, like with Fixed Asset – nonmonetary exchanges and impairments, but what it all boils down to is do what you can to learn it. I've had to rewrite their handouts in a manner that is helpful for me to understand. You can't remember their handouts. It's impossible. But you can use them in your learning process.

i totally agree with noahchase1. IMO Phil just reads from the book. He does elaborate a little, but mostly just reciting what it is written in the book. Gary and Cindy really teach you something there. Well, maybe the BEC is so dull that only reading is the key of passing the exam.
