Ajaz0810ParticipantSo I had a daughter born Monday morning. She is the most beautiful thing in the world. However, she cries all night. My wife has 3 months off and I have the rest of the week off. I’m sure people have gone through this and passed the exam while going through this. I told my wife I would be able to help with the baby from when I get home from work till 12pm. Then I need my sleep. I was thinking I would be able to get in 2 hours of study time from when I get home to 12pm and at least 4 to 5 hours on days off but I’m not sure. This is hard on her she needs my help. I go into battle with FAR on January 21st so I’ve got a little under 6 weeks. Just curious on what’s worked for anyone else? I think I read somewhere where Jeff has 6 kids so Jeff if you’re reading this how did you do this with kids, especially newborns?
Thank you

If this is your first test then you should probably postpone it until your baby is at least sleeping through the night. If you can't then I would try to help where you can, but also realize that while mothers do need sleep, you guys decided to become parents while knowing you were doing this. It was a decision you made together so you need to sit down a decide together how to proceed. Be honest about what you each need. This is coming from someone that has had 3 babies in 4 years while working full time and with hubby working two jobs, 2 of which while I was also going to school. My youngest was 4 months old when I started studying for my first exam, which I timed on purpose because I knew she would be sleeping through the night. I do have a couple of parenting tips if this is your first child…Take one day to make the meals for the week so neither of you have to spend a lot of time cooking. In two hours we can chop/cut/measure/package crock pot meals for the entire week. Freeze the bags, pull them out each morning and throw them in the crockpot. Dinner is ready at night without any hassle. Spend 15 minutes each day picking up stuff so it doesn't pile up. Constant clutter will probably make your wife feel overwhelmed and 15 minutes will go a long way to keeping her sane. What I did not do with the first child was sleep when the baby sleeps. Tell your wife to forget all the things that she thinks just have to get done and make sure she sleeps when she can. By child number 3 I long for a two hour nap and can pass out at the drop of a hat if given the chance. Unfortunately getting all 3 of them to nap at the same time takes an act of God! Plan and prepare as much in advance as possible because regardless of how routined you and your wife may have been before, nothing ruins a routine like a baby. I have no idea what kind of husband you are regularly, but most of my male friends admit that they are like another child for their wife. Wait until the baby is a bit older to go back to any bad habits you may have. Don't leave stuff laying around, do a little laundry, wash some dishes, clean some bottles, stock the diaper bin, fill up the wipes, empty the diaper pail, take out the trash, and do as much as you can without having to be asked. Okay–rant over. My husband finally got it by the third kid…

AnonymousInactiveKNMCPA: You rock!
Everyone knows of my health struggles, but my kids were grown and off to college before I started the CPA journey. I had empty nest at 41 and went back to school. I am in complete AWE of the parents who are taking the exams on top of everything that comes with working and raising children. Each and every one of you are AMAZING!!! *hats off*

Julia_anikaMemberI'm on the same boat. I've started studying for FAR when my baby was 2 weeks old. I'm the only one who takes care of the baby 24/7.. and I'm breastfeeding. The little one is not a quiet baby who always sleeps.. he cries a lot. He doesn't cry only when he's sleeping or he is eating.. the rest of the time he needs to be entertained. I usually study 5 minutes here, 15 minutes there.. and so on. I rarely have 30 minutes of interrupted studying. I've already failed FAR once with 72. Taking it again in January.
I'm determined to pass all 4 parts before my son starts walking. Right now, I feel guilty when I spend my time with books.. I feel that I should spend that time with the baby instead.
I don't work though, but I also have grad school.
Good luck to all of us.

fiona87Member@Julia_anika, we're in the same boat. My second son was born 5/23, I'm also nursing (and working full time), and I'm hoping to get all sections done by my first son's 5th birthday in July. It's hard, but it'll be so worth it.
