Pomodoro Technique does work

I just want to say that the Pomodoro Technique has really helped me with staying focus while studying. Initially the 25 minutes of full concentration with no distractions was difficult for me. But now I’m surprised at how fast the 25 minutes go by and on occasion I will just study through the 5 minute break. My husband also knows now not to interrupt me during the 25 minute window. It’s also a polite way of saying “I”m studying” without hurting his feelings and that he can talk to me when the 25 minutes are up.

Thank you for whomever suggested this.

I totally agree. Today is the first day I really tested it out and it really did make it easier to focus….since it is still my first day trying it I still found my mind wandering but I would just tell myself to stay focused, this is what I am doing right now and on my break I can take care of other things. I found the 25 minutes to start going really fast as well, I didn't always only take the 5 minute break though, I was using the technique more for the focusing for the 25 minutes, most breaks were more like 10-15 minutes so I could get up and do laundry/dishes or whatever around the house. I have to agree about the husband thing as well, I would tell him I was in a study session so I couldn't talk and he seemed to be okay with it as well.

I will keep using the technique going forward that is for sure!

KasiaS is the person that suggested this technique…thanks KasiaS!

Yes, 25 minutes on, 5 minutes off. After 4 – 25 minute sessions, you get to take a longer break.

I've been using it as well and it's great. I have also started it at work also. If you go to www DOT pomodorotechnique DOT com website there are free downloads for the to do list and activity inventory and a free ebook

@pacific1, on the todo list from the website above, It has a place at the bottom for interruptions so If I find my mind wandering then I write down what pops into my head on the bottom of my list so I won't forget it. That tends to be the thing that would really make me lose my focus. I would either worry I would forget whatever it was that popped in my head or I would just stop and take care of it and stop studying.

Wow! I'm so glad that it's working for so many people!

Hopefully this will make life a little easier for everyone. It sure has helped me stay on the ball even on my worst days. Like I've said before, it's amazing what you can get accomplished in a 25-minute window when you cut out distractions.
